9mm A5 Load Info Request
Hi All
I am loading for a 559 that likes them hotter than the 9mm Luger ammo that pushes a 124gr bullet around 1030 fps. These are fine in my 5903 but not the 559.
In the 559 the ZQ1 9mm NATO stuff is awesome in all aspects. It chronographs at 1205 fps. I would like to duplicate this load.
I stumbled on an A5 load, 6.4 gr with a 124gr FMJ and it was listed at 1200 fps.
Question, has anyone tried this load?
Any impressions?
Thanks
Jim

If your weapon has a 4" tube, you can get 1205 fps with a
nice load of Unique that is listed in manuals.
I have yet to try your powder but I have reached 1150 with
the fast burning Bullseye powder in a 4" barrel, so you might be
able to reach that speed.
1200 fps is in the +P range with the 124gr bullet but for SD
work, 1150 fps will do the job if you are not able to get that higher fps before that powder tops out.

If you are looking for an honest 1200 FPS plus you may need a different powder. HS6, Powerpistol or VV3n37 will safely get you there.

A5 is a great powder. If that load is not listed anywhere I would be surprised. Check the Accurate website for loading manual.

Your load of 6.4 gr. Accurate #5 is shown in the Accurate/Western Powders manual as a maximum load for the 124 gr. bullet in 9mm. I wouldn't be a bit concerned using it.

I found it listed on "Best Nines Website". I have A5.
The other load suggestions are appreciated and I will check availability of those powders.
I did load 10 rounds of the A5 load and will do a comparison
with regard to velocity, recoil and check carefully for signs of excessive pressure.
The first round should tell the story. If things check out I will
let you all know.
Thanks
Jim

I can add Longshot to that list. I did some tests with a 124gr coated bullet from Missouri Bullets and I sent them over the chrono. I tested 5 sets of 5 rounds and the AV was 1201 fps. I'm sure HS-6 will get you very clost to the same results. I just haven't tested HS-6 yet.

I've used 6.4 grains of Accurate 5 with with the Remington 124 HP (not Golden Saber) in my Charles Daily High Power. It seemed fine pressure wise and accurate as I recall. I moved last year and haven't been shooting as much and haven't gotten back to reloading.
I have an M&P on order and am looking forward to using the load in that.

AA7 is also a pretty good 9mm +P propellant.
