Anyone load Power Pistol in a 44 Mag case
Or know of cast lead recipes with this powder? I know it's too fast for top magnum performance, but I'm thinking I should be able to make some quick moving cowboy loads with it.
Edit: By cast lead I mean Bayou coated 240gr LSWC, sorry for the lack of description.

yup ....
your underestimating it a little bit.
I wouldn't call it a "cowboy load" ... while not full dress magnum, its upper mid range and seems to make a little more "result" than my usual go to powder, Unique.
It also exhibits more flash and blast than the usual Unique as well.
bottom line is ... I like it, and I'll keep it.
Bear in mind, however, that I coat my cast. This stuff might throw some flame cutting fits with traditional lube that my coated cast avoids.

I have some test data from my 5.5 Bisley with Power Pistol I will share when I get back home. The velocities might be enlightening for you.

I tried Power Pistol in 44 mag with cast & lubed bullets ONCE.. I would describe muzzle blast as robust with less than magnum loading.

I don't use Power Pistol in my 44 Mag loads but I have dabbled with it in 44 Spcl. jacketed, but mostly save it for my .40/10mm & .45 auto loads.
Handloader #293 lists some P-P loads using 250gr LSWC:
8.0grs - 10.0grs. @ 861 - 1034fps, out of a M69, if that helps.

Here are some loads I worked up back in 2007. Hope this helps.
44 Mag, Hdy. 200 gr. XTP, Power Pistol Starline Brass, CCI 300 primer
Chrg. Avg. Hi Low E.S. S.D. OAL Firearm Barrel Len. Test Date

13.0 1391 1397 1385 12 6 1.590 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
14.0 1453 1458 1450 8 4 1.590 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
15.0 1504 1511 1500 11 6 1.590 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
44 Mag, Hdy. 240 gr. XTP, Power Pistol Starline Brass, CCI 300 primer
Chrg. Avg. Hi Low E.S. S.D. OAL Firearm Barrel Len. Test Date
10.0 1075 1077 1073 4 2 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
11.0 1169 1180 1161 19 10 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
12.0 1242 1250 1235 15 8 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
13.0 1303 1309 1298 11 6 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
44 Mag, Hand-Cast Accurate 255 gr. WFN, Power Pistol Starline Brass, CCI 300 primer
Chrg. Avg. Hi Low E.S. S.D. OAL Firearm Barrel Len. Test Date
10.0 1092 1101 1084 17 8 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
11.0 1180 1183 1175 8 4 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
12.0 1271 1282 1262 20 10 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
13.0 1336 1344 1331 13 7 1.600 Ruger Bisley 5.5" 11/3/2007
The top loads here were pretty stout, so for regular use I would drop back one grain from the max load I tried. Even then the speeds were pretty impressive considering the burn speed of Power Pistol and the 5.5" barrel I was using.

Mark, I would agree those are impressive results especially from a 5.5 inch barrel. I'll defintely be trying that with some Hornady XTP's. That's for taking the time to post this info. Appreciated!
