Default load data for the 22 TCM?

Hi all, anyone out there have reliable load data for the .22 TCM? My bestus buddy bought one along with Hornady dies, brass and bullets but needs loading data. It's not in the loading manuals yet. Any help is appreciated!

Fred Craig who developed the round recommends 10gr of H110. I worked that up from 9.4gr and it runs fine in my pistol. Actually more reliably than the factory ammo. There are quite a few out there in internet land loading it quite a bit hotter than that but I'll stick with the recommended charge for now.

Thanks MrG5122! My buddy thinks the home computer and the internet is the work of the devil or something so that leaves me to do the leg work. That pretty much confirms what I dug up searching the net. The only other thing is standard small pistol or standard small rifle primer?

Here is some interesting and fairly comprehensive information on the TCM.

Reloading the 22tcm

Another good read.

You'll notice that the info on the web is all over the place. Different powders, primers, loads, machine setups, etc. Since there is no published data out there that I know of, my advice is to proceed with caution. There is alot of info out there that is dead WRONG. I spent about two weeks reading everything I could find before I ever primed a case.

I hate to share anymore load info other than the one recommended by Fred Craig.

This is all the truth I can share from personal experience about loading this cartridge. I was told by Dillon that their XL650 case feeder wouldn't work with the 22tcm so they are not offering a caliber conversion for that machine. I will tell you that the large pistol case feed plate works and with a little modification of the red case feed adapter the case feeder performs perfectly. The 223 station one locator, shellplate, buttons, and powder funnel #62375 are all that's needed to run them in a 650.

Dillon XL650 set up for 22TCM

I have the Hornady die set.

The February 2015 issue of Shooting Times has an article (including data) on loading for the 22TCM.

Thanks all for the help folks! Talked to my buddy last night and he found that February 2015 issue of Shooting Times. Advising caution on this one is wise, there is a lot of good and not so good stuff out there. My buddy is a old and very experienced Handloader even if he does think the PC and the internet is evil! Have a good weekend all!

I can tell you that the 30 or 35 grain vmax is a dead end unless you are using a single stack with no hole in the front or trim the point off of it because the hole in the double stack magazine catches on the tip. I am trying the 33 gr speer hollow point and haven't gotten to the point where it functions yet. There seems to be a bunch of variation in the profile of that bullet causing seating depth differences.

I am using the 40gr Armscor bullets. It's interesting that the guy in ST didn't use these for comparison. I was just given a couple of boxes of Speer 45gr Hornet bullets. I may try those next.

Yes, I have used H110 9.5 Gr. It does eject the hull. I have also used IMR 800X. 6.2 Gr. Both felt the about same. Both were fired cases and both were 40gr sierra varminter 1100 series. Have not been able to chrony since we cant go to the range from all the flooding

Looked that round up on the net............
For a little .224, 40gr bullet it did well in the gel and 4G test.

It might be a while for the ammo to catch up with pistol sales
as well as loading data.

Good shooting.

Google '22 tcm load data' and you'll come up with pages of hits to sift through. Use at your own risk. I'm still sticking with 10gr of SH110 and the factory Armscor 40gr jhp bullets from Ammo Supply Warehouse.

I have been experimenting with the TCM. I am using the bullets available from TCM which are the same as factory ammo. (40gr. what I call semi jacketed soft point.) I use Lee dies. (I did need to modify the seating die as it would not seat the bullet far enough with the seater turned all the way down.)
I have used H110 starting at 9.5 grs and so far have worked up to 10.4 grs. I have also tried some Alliant 2400 with good results.
If you go to keystoneweapon.com he has a data collection spread sheet you can click on to see what others have done. I did post my Chrony results for factory ammo and the highest amounts of H110 and 2400 that I have tested so far.
This IS a VERY FINICKY round to load. You will not be able to do these well and safe on a progressive press. Treat it like a VERY high pressure rifle round.
By the way I have used small pistol primers and small rifle primers so far and cannot see any difference. I may also try small pistol magnum primers.
BE CAREFUL!!!!!

Default Bring this back to the top

I'm seriously considering buying a Rock Island Armory 22tcm to join my arsenal. Being a reloader for 40+ years, I have a couple of questions: The Hornady die set has a neck sizer/mouth flarer die. Since when do you need to flare the mouth on a bottle neck cartridge to seat a bullet? Is there much if any case stretch with this case? Just wondering how many times a case can be fired before needing trimmed. This gun/cartridge looks like a really fun time, while at the same time be a good home defense gun because of the mild recoil.

I don't know about other bullets but the Armscor and Sierra 40-45 grainers are flat based. Stabbing those little pills into a short stubby case is much easier with a little flare at the case mouth. Yes, I have Hornady dies and use the flaring die.

As far as case life goes I'm only working on the second run through my once-fired cases. No problems yet.
