Possible pressure issue?
I have reloaded about a hundred of these factory Magtechs and all are showing this ring (designated buy the black arrows). In the image the circle looks broken but it is a solid line. I have not encountered this before and wanted some opinions on whether or not these can be reloaded or should they be trashed.

Does that match up with your recoil shield of your rev?

No, That was the first thing I checked. It is completely flat. The primer is also somewhat flattened. 3.8 grains of this powder should not be showing pressure issues in my opinion. I have changed powders because of position sensitivity issues with this powder. My main concern is using the brass safely in future loads..

I have seen that type of marking on a lot of cases.........
I would think it as machine marks.
That is the thickest part of a case.............. the side wall will
blow out before the base of the case goes.
That primer does not look that bad to me.
I have had primers flow all the way to the brass edge.....
all the way around !!

I agree with Ed, primer isn't showing anything. I have also never seen any case have an issue with pressures acting on the bottom of the case. I've seen marks like that made from the breech face, but other than that, just odd.

Is the firing pin bushing...
Is the firing pin bushing making these marks? Whatever it is, doesn't look too bad and being scratches on the head of the case won't weaken it at all. You should be able to safely reload them. If you notice anything strange about the wall of the case though, you might want to hesitate. I don't have my lead data in front of me but the charge doesn't sound excessive at all.

I have reloaded lots of Magtech 38 spl brass with no problems at all.
Your load is certainly not excessive so I don't believe the marks are
pressure related. Look to your gun or loading tools for a cause.

To my eye that ring looks to be the diameter of the firing pin bushing in a s&W revolver. Since these are rarely exactly surface matched to the recoil shield a ring like this might be expected if you have a firing pin bushing that sits just slightly above the recoil shield. I'd give the revolver a good look just to be sure the firing pin bushing hasn't worked loose but I don't see any reason to not use these cases.

Thanks to everyone for the input. When I run in to something that seems odd to me I like to bounce it off others in the know for their opinions. I just started loading 38 specials again after about a 30 year hiatus. Back then I primarily used 231 for 9mm and 38 spl. The only powder I have available right now is IMR SR-4756 and 7625. I have been using the 4756 for .45 auto and I have loaded about (1000) rounds with good results. I started loading for 38 special about a week ago with the 7625 and had unburnt powder issues right off the bat. I started to to increase the charge weight from a starting weight of 3.7 grains and increased it at .2 increments to about 4.2 grains. The unburned powder remained through all charge weights. At about .4 grains I noticed the ring around the primer cup and also the primers started to flatten out just a little. I was not to concerned with the small amount the primer had flattened out but it was a noticeable change. The ring around the case head was more of a concern. I quit using the 7625 and started using the 4756 and I figured before I loaded any more of the Magtech brass I would see what you all had to say about that ring. Hopefully here shortly I will be able to get hold of some HP38/231. Thanks again for the info.

We are certainly....
We are certainly getting used to a lot of different powders (and bullets) nowadays.

Here lately it seems to be getting a little better. I guess time will tell. I have seen some eight pounders of HP38 and 231 pop up but not when I had the cash on hand.
