9mm guru's needed
Hi there, I do not have a lot of 9mm reloading experience and have a question. I came across some once fired Federal non toxic brass (brass not aluminum) and noted after sizeing and depriming they have a rather large primer flash hole compared to regular 9mm case's. Is this going to be a concern? I am hesitant to admit to this but I have only one 9mm load and that is a 130gr cast lead bullet over 5.0gr of Power Pistol with a CCI 500 primer, and was wondering if these large flash hole case's would be safe with my load.

Factory brass should be ok...........
but if drilled out for wax bullets or some other reason by a loader.........I would not use them.
Your call.

Brass is cheap in comparison to guns/hands/eyes etc. (especially once fired range 9mm range brass).
I would not load any brass with substantially oversize flash holes; possibility of weakened case head and catastrophic case failure IMO.

I think the "non toxic" ammo also included non toxic primers that needed a bigger flash hole for better ignition. I never deprime before running it through my Dillon and I know I've run some of the "non toxic" stuff through. I haven't noticed any problems with it. This is on minor power factor, middle of the road 9mm loads. When I do major power factor 9mm loads I'm a bit more particular about the brass, but that's because I'm at the limit (or a bit beyond ).

I've found he same thing in Wincheser 45 ACP cases. I ired a few, but now if I see them I'll discard them. There's plenty of 9mm and 45 brass around.

If you use it.....
I'd separate it from the rest of the brass so whatever batch I made from it would be consistent.

If i recall (which is hard these days) those are older non toxic (lead free) brass. The older compound needed a bigger flash hole. Then they developed a better compound that uses a regular size hole. or as others say, they may be drilled out for wax bullets.
Either way, I would not mess with them. ditch them or recycle them. There is so much 9mm brass around not worth it.
If you need 9mm let us know.
