Default WST,,, great stuff

Just came back from the range, and I must say
Winchester Super Target is some great powder.
I am shooting 40S&W,
loaded some 150gr nosler hollow points (gun doesn't like plated)
and wow what an accuracy improvement over a lightly loaded
CFE Pistol round.
Winchester Autocomp came in second.
Time to get a big jug of WST!!!

Default Good powder.

I agree it is a very good powder for light target loads but I have found it to be a very fast powder and pressure will spike if you try to up the charge much at all. I have used it in 38 special, .357 magnum (really just a 38 spl charge in .357 mag brass) and 45 colt. I will only be using it for low velocity target loads.

It has been my fav 45acp powder for 20yrs now. It also works well in 9mm & 40 for light-med vel loads.

WST has been my go-to powder for 45acp for over 20 years. You can load it to factory equivalent with no problem; however, don't try to turn it into a 45acp magnum. I must have shot tens of thousands of rounds loaded to the a 180 PF, back when IPSC major required a minimum of 175PF. WST is also great in 9mm mid-range loads. Very clean burning and a pleasant recoil impulse. I always try to keep at least 4-6 pounds on hand.

I've rarely seen it around here and just was introduced a couple months ago.

So far the 230RNL/4.0/?775fps recipe seems very nice.

We had to make major power factor when shooting the local steel plate matches and started out asking other 45acp shooters what they used with 230 grain hard cast bullets. WST was generally the first powder mentioned and usually 4.7 grains was quoted. That was about 20 years ago. Shot great,made the major power factor and still continue to use it today. Don't know how many pounds of powder I've shot or how many 500 round boxes of 230 grain hard cast bullets went down that barrel. Barrel shows almost no wear and does not lead up even after extensive firing. Works for me. Frank

Where do you get your load data for 9mm? I don't see any WST data on hodgdon's site for it. I'm use HP38 for 9mm now (124gr RN) but might try WST.

Winchester published 9mm loads originally, then stopped. If you contact them now they will say they don't recommend WST for 9mm. Apparently pressure spikes rapidly in the small combustion chamber. Google will find lots of loads but here's the earliest I've found:
from Hornady 4th edition
115gr. FMJ-RN
5.2gr. = 1050fps
5.4gr. = 1100fps
5.6gr. = 1150fps

124gr. FMJ-RN
4.8gr. = 1025fps
5.0gr. = 1050fps
5.2gr. = 1075fps
5.4gr. = 1100fps

No C.O.L. given.

I load `124gr. plated from RMR or Xtreme with 4.8gr. at 1.150" O.A.L. Accurate and cycles fine in CZ's, Glocks, Beretta's and other 9's I've forgotten about.
