Default Bullet sizing question

In my 45 ACP revolvers the cylinder throats are .451". Cast bullets sized .452" won't pass through when pushed by hand. I'm thinking I need to size these down to .451" for easy pass through. What say the experienced?
Thanks.

It would be good to know your bore dia. Cyl throat and ideal bullet dia to fit the throat is not helpfull if your bore dia isn't inline.

I'd say as long as the completed cartridge chambers fine in the cylinder, slug your bore and size .001 over that. If you are having trouble getting your completed cartridges to chamber, that's a different issue.

Side note: John Taffin had an interesting article some time back about sizing to cylinder throat and bore diameter respectively, and the differences this related to that. I'll see if I can find it.

Found it: http://americanhandgunner.com/bullet-sizing/

Hope that helps.

Thanks snowninja for that article. I suppose I do need to slug the barrel.
Always hated doing that as it bruises my knuckles so much.

Also note, I said BORE, not BOAR.

As long as the cylinder throats are larger than the groove diameter, you're OK. No matter what diameter bullet you put in the cylinder, it will be the throat diameter when it comes out; bullets will be swaged to the throat diameter as they pass through. If the bullets were much over (.002"+) throat diameter, I got lead spray/leading on the cylinder face and frame. I size all my cast bullets to the same diameter as the cylinder throats (.358". .359", .430", .431", and my Puma gets .433" boolits). I've never been a fan of "easy push through", "push through", or "hard push through" as measurements. I prefer to use micrometers...

Short, simple answer - in my opinion, size 0.0005-0.001" over the exit bores of your cylinder. If that doesn't work, you may want to consider selling the gun.

I gave up sizing long ago. If the loaded cartridge fits the chamber, I let the cylinder throat and barrel do the sizing. Fortunately, none of my molds throws a bullet that's too small to fill the throat or barrel when kicked in the rear by a few thousand PSI pressure. YMMV, depending on alloy hardness.

I have a .45 ACP 625-6, 5" barrel. .452" cast bullets (wheelweight alloy) are a bit snug and won't pass through cylinder throats. 451" bullets will pass through. While I make no recommendations, .452" bullets are noticeably more accurate.

I've heard recommendations before and that sounds like a recommendation to me.
