Default S&W primers Pictures added in post 11

My dealer has three 100 count boxes of S&W/Alcan primers for large rifle. Boxes are mint. What are these worth?

Thanks

Kelly

I'd buy one for $10 just as a curio. I don't think they're worth that, and I wouldn't load with them at any price because you really don't know how they were stored. Others may know if there is a market for old primers, like old ammo. I could be wrong.

I think Alcan went out in the 50's, so that stuff may be eligible for Medicare! As a collectors item it may bring $7 - $10 as a curiosity.

Most primers, including such desirable and collectible names like Winchester, bring only $3-4 per box at auction. Old boxes from the first half of the 20th century will bring a bit more, but $10-12 is probably the upper limit. And, as mentioned above, these Alcans might be worth $5-10 each, especially from an S&W collector.

I used Alcan in the early 60s for shotgun reloading.

Are they priced at the original retail of $0.49 per 100?

Buy them, and use them. If you can buy at a decent price. They are still good.
I still use some once in a while.

No old price on them, just the dealers price. They look newer than 50's or 60's. maybe early 1970's. I will post picture shortly

When I started loading in the early 70s, Alcan was all that was available where I lived. I used thousands of them for $10/1000. Haven't seen any in years.

I used the last of the S&W/Alcan Max-Fire's, that I bought in '79, a little over a year ago. They worked fine. They were described as neither standard nor magnum primers, as best as I recall.
