Default What a #*$% mess!

I got my LNL AP converted over to run some 9mm and use up the last of a 1# bottle of Autocomp. Went to check my powder drop and discovered that I had not gotten the metering insert locked into the rotor and it popped out. Powder started pouring out of the insert hole!! It made a huge mess before i had the presence of mind to rotate the rotor up. I may have lost a 1/4 cup of powder at the most. Finally got all of it swept up, press cleaned, lubed and set back up. Think I'm done reloading for the night. Thankfully I have an unopened 8# keg of Autocomp stashed away , but as hard as I have searched to build up my supply, I really hate wasting any powder.

Default I had a container....

When I'm loading I keep a butter dish full of powder next to me and put it back in the bottle when I'm done with that batch. After our fire I threw all of my reloading stuff in the garage because I didn't want the 'disaster' people messing with it and packing it up where I couldn't get it. I'm back in the house now and just discovered that I have a butter dish full of powder that I marked, but the marking is messed up. Now, I'm pretty sure I know what powder it is so I'll do a comparison test and I've got my notes when I get the time. I don't want to throw away that much powder.

Along the lines of not wasting powder. In 1985 I had a furnace fire that put us out of the house for 4 months. I had been loading at a table that was right next to where the fire came through the wall. This was back in the DuPont steel can days. Not only was the IMR 3031 in the can good, the loaded cartridges were good, and even the powder in the powder drop was good. The heat and steam along with the rough handling that room got from the firefighters didn't stop any of the components from being used or performing properly. I had run out of the primers I was using, so steamed primers were not tested.

I could have been a lot worse if you were reloading........
12 Ga. hulls !!

When I spill loading little itty bitty pistol cases, I don't sweat the small stuff.

You got off lucky.................

Forgot to insert the metering insert into the rotor once (actually twice, first and last time). Couldn't understand how I was able to spill the powder when pouring it into the reservoir. Took a while before I understood what happened. Cleaning up was not fun!
