Default Best Powder Selection for Win 270 110gr Barnes TTSX

I'd like to experiment with some lighter (110gr maybe even 95gr) Barnes TTSX bullets for my .270. Of the powders I have on hand to work with are CFE223 and Varget. I'm shooting a bolt action Savage 111 with a 1 in 10 twist.

My question is which powder is would be more ideal? Most of the load data out there is more focused on the 130/150gr bullets. I was considering picking up a pound RL-17.

What is the general rule of thumb, lighter bullet faster powder or lighter bullet slower powder?

Any advice here would be appreciated so I'm not wasting time and money experimenting.

Playing around here looking to achieve high speed accuracy.

Respectfully,
15K

My light bullets do well with powders in the 4064/4895/Varget areas.

Before buying more powder, look up a few Varget loads and test out three loads with three bullets at 50 to 100 yards to see if they might work out. ( more if you have lots of bullets )

You might have what you need, now...............
good loading.

The 270 is slightly over bore,so works well with slower powders. Generally, lighter bullets will like faster powders. I would look at h4350, always a good performer in most 06 size cases with any bullet weight. Only 270 I am loading for is the 6.8, totally diff powder range. Lightestbullet i e gone to in my 280 is 120gr & it shot great with h4350.

I used 4064 in loading 100 gr Remington and Sierra bullets in my Winchester Model 70, .270, and got the velocity I wanted.
Accuracy was OK, but not up to the tack-driving accuracy with either 4064 or 4831 and most any good 130 gr bullet.

Since the POI with the 100gr bullets was WAY different than the 130gr bullets, I got sick of the scope always being set for the "wrong load" and standardized on 130gr bullets. I use 130gr partition for elk & caribou and either Remington or Hornady ballistic tip for anything smaller. Yes, a 130gr Hornady ballistic tip just about cuts a coyote in half, but I don't save the hides anyway.

Good luck.

Excellent. Thank you all for the advice. I will try out the Varget with the 110gr TTSX bullets I have.
