Default Brass bullets for .500 Magnum revolver?

I was wondering if I could load brass bullets for S&W 500 magnum 4" revolver. Is it going to cause any damage to the the gun or the barrel?

Brass-no idea. However you can get LeHigh Defense Extreme Penetrators which are solid copper. They run about $54.00 for a box of 50. These will punch through a lot of heavy duty materials and will not hurt your barrel. Getting some myself soon.

Cutting Edge Bullets is my source.

Have used them in 460 and 500 S&W with no issues.

be safe and good luck

If you handload them use the appropriate data for solid copper bullets. Typically they seat deeper, have more bearing surface & have lower maximun powder loads than regular jacketed cup & core bullets. Otherwise you may have excessive pressures if you use data for conventional bullets.

There is another source for the brass slugs, Belk Mountain and their "Punch" bullets. They have apparently been recently acquired by Grizzly Cartridge Co.

I have some loaded up but haven't tried them, no tyrannosaurus' around to use them on.

I strongly agree with the suggestion that you really need to work up any such load with starting powder charges lower than lead or copper jacketed slugs.

Just another way to have fun with the 500 Mag. Don

Thank you 500 magnum users who replied to me. Probably it has no function but as Don mentioned tyrannosaurus hunters may use them.

I think this would wander into AP which would have some legal issues.

They're simply great guns to own and shoot. Trail Boss gives you very mild rounds that are really tame but still 60% more powerful than a top end .45ACP round, mid heavy to just below the hottest loads, H4227 is great.

99.9% of people cannot exploit the intrinsic accuracy of this gun/ammo combination, I'm certainly one of those who can't.

The ONLY thing an 8 3/8th in barreled 500 Mag can't do properly is concealed carry. Don
