Default Chronographed 357 Mag Mid Range

Chronographed my std 357 Mag load using 158 gr SWC with 6.0 grs Unique - from my S&W Mod 28, 4 inch. Was only able to shot 5 but they averaged 978 fps. Nice load and also very accurate when I shot the balance at 50ft B3s.

Will try to get some time soon to test 6.5 grs and 7.0 grs Unique with same 158 gr SWC (Dardas 16bnh).

I've pretty much now use just Unique in my 357 Mag. Gives me a moderately strong yet very accurate load; although, my old standard 13.5 grs 2400 with 158 gr SWC was a great magnum load duplicating approximately factory speeds - and darn accurate.

Unique in .357 Mag works well. 8 grains with a 158 SWC gives me about 1150-1200 ft/sec from a 6" barrel. That's fast enough for me.

Default Old or not.....

Unique is still very good for many applications, but especially well in the warm to maybe a little hot range where it burns better. It even works in some rifle loads. It's just great stuff.

I like HS-6 better but it's the same concept. For full power loads it's W296 for me but nothing wrong with 2400 for the most part.

Been using Win231 but recently bought some unique for my 45/70 gov reloads and am looking forward to trying it in the .357 as well. What's a good light load that's accurate as well? I primarily use plated 158 gr. SWC.
