Default Found Alliant powder on the shelf....

Today, my girlfriend and I were out shopping at Cabela's and Gander Mountain. Had no luck at Cabela's, but was shocked when I found Alliant powder at Gander Mountain!!

I found 2-1 lb. bottles of Bullseye in the powder cabinet!! $24.99/lb. but I had a $10 reward certificate to redeem, so my net cost was $19.99/lb. First Bullseye powder since 2013

They also had Blue Dot, Green Dot, AR Comp and a few others. No Unique though. I'm hoping that Alliant powders will start showing up on a regular basis in my area.

I did find a couple pounds of 2400 yesterday at a show. Still sealed and paid 10 bucks a pound. Older powder but what the heck..and if I had wanted it the fellow had some old Hodgdon BL-C powder Not BLC-2. He offered me 5 pounds for 25 bucks..but I had no real use for it. I recently found an 8 lb keg of Unique so I am good to go on it for a good while. Got 5000 primers too CCI and Winchester for 25 bucks a 1000. Fair price right now.

I am still loading powders that I bought in bulk as much as 40 years ago and they still work the same as they did then. Stored right there is no telling how long they will hold up. I have some Dupont black powders in the paper label oval can that I have been using as long as I have been shooting and I think it is still better than the new powders. It's nearly 100 years old . For $25 for 5 lb I would have bought the BL-C , never can tell when you might have a need for it. Congrats on the finds you both did very well.

It's been available in my area for a while. Hogdgon has had even better availability. LGS has Universal for $20.45 a lb. There is a whole shelf full of it. That may not be the case in a couple months.

My local guy gets all the alliant stuff from time to time but not much. He has pretty much all the shotgun powders, got some 2400 last weekend. He as unique to, BE BE-86, 1# & some in 8#. Prices are fair but not great.

Where is 'east central Indiana'? There are no reloading supplies in Lafayette. I buy mine when I visit the folks in Wisconsin. Just picked up an 8# jug of Bullseye for $126.

That is about what I paid for the Unique(128 OTD)...no tax in Mt of course. I still have part of an 8 pounder but it is the cardboard keg. Got it at a gun show for 120 bucks. Guy had some older powder on his table and I bought an 8 lb 2400 for a friend. He said he had more powder in his car..so I went and looked and got that Cardboard container of Unique. Have loaded all of my(Win and Rem) 28 ga empties and still have a pound or two left. Was going to load the Federal and Estate empties but ran out of the right wads. Think I will just sell them. I don't use a lot of Alliant powders any longer. Guy even gave me a metal can of Reloader 11? have to go look. Can't ever remember using it. I have recently bought a bunch of mostly full plastic 4 lb containers of other Alliant pistol/shotgun powders like E3 Red Dot Green Dot(full) American Select and 20/28. Fellow even gave me a one pound container of Alliant Steel....which I doubt I will ever use. I will look for pistol reloading data for them as I no longer load 12 ga shotgun shells. Got it all for 50 bucks so I am pretty much set for reloading most handgun rounds. As far as retailers having most powders...the local Scheels had most Alliant in stock the last time I was in there..but prices were a tad bit higher. I think they will go even higher in the near future. I need to acquire more LP and SP primers as I am below 10M of each even with what I bought at the gun show last weekend.

2400 has been missing around here lately. Glad I got a few extra when they were available.

Unique finally made a come back. Most of the others are usually in-stock.

My LGS sends out an email with their available powder each week. Boy was I surprised to see BE, Power Pistol and Unique on the list. Called and bought some before the gold rush.

My local GM typically has all of the Unique and Tite-Group that I want to buy. Used a $10-off-$100 coupon this week to buy a couple more lbs of each.

Default For a change.....

We finally have plenty of powder here. Even all kinds of Alliant. And the prices are the 'new' decent. $24-$30 I'm wondering how long it's going to last.

Might as well buy Vihtavuori. But it's probably $59.95 a pound.

You're not too far from Indianapolis. The next Indy 1500 gun
show is next weekend, starting Friday 10-28, at the state
fairgrounds in Indy. Sure to be reloading supplies there as well
as at the Cabela's store near Noblesville.

Thought I would update to this thread. Hard to believe it's been 4 months since I made that purchase at GM. Last week, I ordered an 8 lb. jug and 1 lb. bottle of Bullseye from Natchez Shooter Supply; No HazMat fee, just shipping. Then yesterday 2-25-2017 back to GM and they had just unloaded 10-1 lb. bottles of Bullseye into the powder cabinet! They were running 20% off any purchase, so bought 4 more bottles @ $19.99 each. I was tempted to buy all 10, but as I now have 25 lbs., I left some for others who might need it.

When I joined this Forum in 2013, Alliant powder had dried up to nothing in my area. Seems it is showing up now and I'm stocking up as much as I can-just in case.... I've been fortunate for the past 4 years to find other powders which got me through the "drought" and have bought as much as I could afford to for the same reason. Primers have always been available, though you bought what was available, if not what you normally used. Prices in my area seem to be in the $25-$35/K price range. So, with a good supply of powder I will be concentrating on adding primers and bullets to my supplies. I will be 60 my next birthday in September, and my goal is to have all the supplies I could need/use for retirement. My routine at that time should be Load, Shoot, Repeat-at least that is the goal :-) LOL

Default Wilson case trimmer question

I have one of these I use for rifle brass. I'm setting up a battery drill to run it, and wondering if anyone has any made-at-home slick ways to hold the shell holder. My hands and arthritis are getting more acquainted all the time, just trying to make it easier for myself.

Thanks.

I saw one of those mini "Blue" drills with all the drill parts that came with
a drill stand that might work for you.
Dremel, that's the name........... (getting old sucks)

Just a thought.

Wilson sells a stand for their trimmer. It accepts a clamp mechanism to hold the case holders securely in the trimmer rails as you turn the cutter handle. It works pretty well.

You can order direct from LE Wilson or check Midway, Mid-South, etc.

The past eight years has been good for powder manufacturers. Even though the outlook is good for most, when we see something we want, we buy it.... and LOTS of it!

I found an 8# keg of 2400 at my LGS today. I gave $210 for it, which is more than I would have liked. But now I should be set for a while with my favorite .44 mag powder. They had a couple more and about 5 1# cans for $28.00 each. Reloading Zone in Golden Colorado.

A company called Lohman Arms has 1 lb and 8 lb bottles of 2400 in stock and they do accept online orders. I ordered an 8 lb bottle last week and it was supposed to be delivered on 2/28. I was out at the rig here by Midland so I'm not positive it was delivered, but I will check with the wife today. They are selling it for $159.99 for the 8 lb bottle.

That was the situation at the Gander Mountain near me, but two weeks ago they did have Unique. So, keep checking the stores as it seems that Gander Mountain only puts three or four pounds of a particular powder in the cabinet at a time to prevent someone showing up and buying it all. You may just have to get there when they have replenished the Unique.

The Bass Pro in San Antonio and Cabela's in Waco were both well stocked with most types of powder last week. Granted, they wanted between $30 and $40 a pound for it, but it was there, so maybe similar things will happen in Indiana.
