Default Trail Boss in 45LC - which load manuals?

I'm looking ot reference load data for 45LC with IMR Trail Boss for 200gr FP and 255gr LSWC. Do you folks know of manuals with such data? I have looked at Hodgdon's reloading center...not too much there for this powder in these bullet weights for 45LC.

This maker states that this powder can not be compressed.........
98% of your case volume with the seated bullet could be in
the maximum load area, all the way down to just a 50% case volume.

At one time if you looked up "Trail Boss loading data" there would
be several pistol and rifle loads available.

Good luck getting "Actual" data.

Fill the case to the bottom of the bullet...not compressed. That is your max load, reduce it 30% and that's your starting load. According to Hodgdon you are safe at the max. I used this method for loading 45-90 and stuck with the max of 17grs.

FWIW I am loading 6.2gr of TB with a 200gr bullet in 44spl. Given the difference in case capacity between 44spl and 45 Colt I would say you would be safe upping my load by a grain for 200gr 45 bullets.

Lyman Cast Bullet loading manual 4th edition will be helpful for sure. All about lead bullets and loads and gives best performing results in bullet weight categories.

There are essentially 3 different load "tiers" for the 45 Colt.

It depends on what gun you have??

There are the basic old light loads, medium loads and Ruger only loads.

So it all depends on what you are shooting and how heavy a load you want.

There are gobs of information-out there on these loads.

If you must use Trail Boss (It smells like Cowboy Farts) here is a reduced formula that can be used for anything.

I'm aware of the load range. I'm specifically asking about Trail Boss as I have a couple pounds of it laying around. I'm out of 45LC and need to load some, so why not us up the Trail Boss....except that when I went do so I found a lack of data. Mild is fine, but I was surprised to see very limited data from Hodgdon for a fairly popular powder and very popular cartridge. I'm shooting a 25-7 at paper. Fast powder and bunny farts loads are just fine. I'll just work off the hodgdon load ranges on line.

Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th Edition has 45 Colt / Trail Boss data , starting to max. loads in grains for your weighing convenience.
Lots of good info in Lyman #4, might want to get one, it's one of my most used. On line is nice but sometimes a good old fashioned paper manual is handy.

I didn't look at Lyman Cast Bullets because my copy has been at someone's house so long I forgot I had until I read your post......Clearly my brain is still on Christmas break....

I've loaded 5# of TB in .45 Colt under a 215 or 230gr .45acp cast bullet;6.2gr of it at a time.I'd call them more mouse farts than bunny farts(aprox 750-800fps)but accurate.

Well for range use and paper punching the Hodgdon online data is just fine.

Yes, I'm aware as I stated above. I picked up my Lyman Cast Bullet book, and it's definitely the way for forward for the two slugs Im loading.

This is pretty neat food for thought. I don't think I've seen this before.

Go to Hodgdon site and select 45 colt and trail boss powder. Leave the other fields blank. Wikipedia said 45 Colt and 45 Long Colt were the same. Is that true???

I load Trail Boss for almost all my revolvers range shooting. It is the only powder out there that makes it impossible to double charge loadings for any caliber. I use 6 grains under a 200 grain RNFP and get 800 fps from my Colt and Schofield reproductions.

yes they are the same - .45 colt is the name & long colt is a nickname for it - however you may get a huge variety of answers on this subject.

I got my load data years ago from <forgotten site> and loaded VERY pleasant cowboy match loads 45 Colt~200 FNL with 6.2g Trail Boss in all the SAA revolvers I used (Ruger/Colt/AWA/Uberti). Disclaimer of course of any responsibility of use by any others.

Due to acute carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands I had to either quit shooting altogether or down load.

It turned out so pleasant a load I continued it after surgery.

Don't know what in field use it might be worth, but the Uberti clone 1873 rifle is virtually recoil free.

That load level was close to a full case in the 45LC brass.
Trail Boss became my favorite cowboy recipe.

I'm not sure what you're looking for. The Hodgdon site has data for a 200gr LRNFP bullet and a 250gr LRNFP bullet which can be safely use for a 255gr LSWC bullet. What more do you want?

Sources other than hodgdon as I clearly stated in the original post. The question has been adequatley answered by other posters.

The Hornady 9th volume has some data in .45 Colt for Trail Boss. The newer 10th volume may have more. But the data I'm looking at is pretty much the same thing again as what Hodgdon lists. I doubt you are going to get anything much different that what the people that sell it tell you to do with it.
