Default Xtreme 200 grain 44 loads

Hey guys
Im trying to work up some light to mid range loads for my new S&W 69. What I have is the Xtreme 200 grain bullets, Starline brass, WLP primers, and a couple pounds of 231. As per the Xtreme website, Our Copper Plated Bullets can be run at mid-range jacketed velocities or higher end lead velocities. The Hodgdon webiste lists their cowboy load for the 44 mag of 5.8 grains to 7.4 grains with a 200 grain lead RNFP, and 10.0grains to 11.9 grains behind a 200 grain Nosler JHP. I'm thinking of starting somewhere around 8 grains and working up. Does this seem like a good place to start to you guys? Appreciate the help.

Peter

Yes,it sure is a soft load to start with. The 200gr can be loaded at around 1100 to 1250fps for a medium load that is easy both on the gun and on the shooter.Have fun.

For the lighter loads , I would definitely recommend some Alliant Red Dot . It is much bulkier than 231 and has a faster burn rate . For lighter loads using light for caliber bullets I really like the faster powders .
I shoot a lot of 8 grs of 231 but with a 245 gr cast bullet , Keith swc . I would imagine you will have to do a little work to find the sweetspot for the bulllet and powder combination you are talking about . And for those light loads ( 44 spl type) , Red Dot would be my first choice , as I mentioned before . Good Luck , please keep us posted on your progress.

Yes, you are right on. I've used the exact same combo of components. I typically don't bother going over 8.5gr. I have loaded 10gr 231, if I remember correctly....just extra bang and recoil as you would expect. No incremental benefit for range use.
