Default Beeswax

Lee says to use beeswax to lubricate their bullet mold. Where in suburbia can one find beeswax? How much would it cost them to put a small block in the box!

Beeswax is usually available in candle-making shops, hobby shops, and leather crafting shops. Small quantities will be relatively expensive ($2 per ounce or more), but a little bit goes a long way for your purposes.

I used beeswax in the leather shop for many years. Usually purchased it in bulk quantities (10 lbs or more) from beekeepers or honey producers. Raw beeswax is not terribly expensive, while highly refined (candlemakers' grade, etc) can be pretty pricy stuff.

Parafin won't do the job as it burns away at quite a low temp leaving unadequate protection. If you can't find Beeswax, you can use just a dab of any high temp grease either graphite or lithium based.I take a wood toothpick and lube the alignment pins and the pin under which the plate anchors itself. But use only a small quantity(i put the toothpick on these points aprox 1 second while the mould is at working temp). If allowed to migrate in one or more bullet cavity, you'll have to burn it away by casting a few dozens of bullets that will all come out more or less wrinkled. You'll learn quickly how much is enough.

Lee has recently updated that to include Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant, this is a paste, found at wallymart in automotive section. Works much better than wax, apply with a Q-Tip , just a little , it will not run into cavities.
Also synthetic 2-stroke oil , it works better than any wax . Apply very sparingly with a tooth-pick or Q-Tip, it will migrate into the cavities if too much is applied. Both products are made for high temperature applications and will not leave a hard baked on residue like bees wax and paraffin will. Trust me , after years of using beeswax my moulds were covered in a dark brown crud, I cleaned them all up and the new Lee mould I bought mentioned Permatex Anti-Seize and NOE Moulds suggested Synthetic 2-stroke oil, both are much better than wax.
