Bought a press and need to get some help. I think it is a Hollywood but one seldom seen. Can anybody name this press??

That first one is in really need cleaning up condition. This one needs stripping and painting. Well it's turned the wrong way. Don't know how to do that right. But it is a Hollywood Universal

The first one doesn't appear to use any castings, and looks like something a bored machinist would make for an overkill single station press. If a little steel is good, then a lot is better.

What size dies fit your press? If they are 7/8-14 standard dies, you are good! If not have it machined or a bushing made. I looks strong enough to swage lead bullets, Corbin makes dies for that in a fine 3/4" thread.

Actually the first one is a lot lighter than it looks. The handle seems to be a casting. Base is aluminum. I had the thought it is a Hollywood Junior. But since I have never seen one I had to put a pic here to find out. What is with a Uniblab? All I get with that link is George Jetson

The first press is a Hollywood Junior. Came out in '52, takes standard 7/8-14 dies. The S/H is a pain to change out and like most all Hollywood presses is a propietary H/Wood assembly. BUT you can buy an adaptor from CH4D to allow the use of standard type shell holders in these old Hollywood presses.
Aluminum construction for the main core parts,,steel rod connectors making it sort of an H press. No mfg markings on the press that I can recall. They made them right to '69 when the company was sold with some others assembled afterwards from parts.



Your second pictured press (the sideways one) is I believe a Hollywood Model B special Turret'. This was an upgrade from their Universal Turret B .
They upgraded the Model B to the Model B Special (sometimes called the Universal Deluxe Special) in about '48. The easy way to spot the difference betw the early B and the later Special/Deluxe is on the front of the press. The early model used steel bars screwed to the cast steel frame as guides for the ram to move up and down.
The later Model B Special has the guides cast right into the frame and then machined for a close fit. That made the press even stronger.
The B Special was avail with extra turrets w/ not only 7/8-14 but also 1 1/2-18 (?) threads for larger cal and shot shell reloading.

The B and B special were made at the same time and a B could be upgraded to a B Special. (There was also an A Model,a much smaller turret press). The A and B were gone from production by the early to mid 50's. The B-Special then became the (Universal ?) Model III.

Made even heavier (even with their now aluminum frames at 50# +) they became known as Super Turrets and remained in production till the early /mid 60's.

One in nice clean condition, complete w/ 1 turret , not beat up and still running accurately on it's guides and rails ect will easily get $300+.
Even one as-is for parts has has good value as the old presses are valued by reloaders and constantly being rebuilt and restored.

The big one is marked on the side as a Universal. And yep it is heavy. I also bought another like the Universal but it is all steel/iron. It also has some larger shotshell holes in the turret for the large dies. Got a decent Hollywood powder measure(with cap) and another measure I am pretty certain is a shot measure. The Jr came with a RCBS shell holder adapter for the H type presses. . Got some other Hollywood stuff too like a few dies and a few standard shellholders. The 2nd Large press is a bit different than the one pictured and the handle is bent. It wasn't with the press...but when I was leaving the fellows place he found it mounted in a jack he had there. Even the jack was older than me. As you can tell this was all under his bench and had ben there for years. I got a bunch of other presses from him too. Some Herter's and older Pacifics and a J C Higgins C type as well as a Savage shotshell press. Going to clean the Jr press up. Looks pretty simple. Can you give me an approx value on the Jr. I have never had one of them. I mostly bought these to clean up and sell anyway. I have way too many presses around here.

Hmm, $25 new and it's in not so hot shape now, I'l give you $10 for it, as is...

It looks alot better now. I Took it all apart and cleaned it up. Crinkle paint on the base etc and it'll look almost new. Then I'll put it on ebay or something. I surely don't need it. The Universal is going on there next week.
