Default New bullet I'm loading in 45acp

Ran accross these bullets at an estate sale. 230grain SWC .4515 sized two grease grooves. Cast with great care for confirmation and uniformity. 500 of them in 100 bullet wooden boxes.

I loaded 25 experimental rounds last night! COAL 1.20 in virgin Winchester brass, WW primer and 5.3 grains of 231. They feed and function without a stutter in my M&P45c. They show promise in a Kahr CW45. Now to get them fired for group and chronoed. I'll add some attachments of the bullet and the pistol.

Do they feed properly being seated out that far?

The bullet looks good.The one on the right needs to be seated deeper. When it hits the feed ramp it will probably push back a little.

I've hand cycled them through the 45c and Kahr and they cycle easily. Thanks for the tip on the seating depth.

Thursday I will take them out for function. Any idea on the origin of the mold. Molds were sold separately.

. I prefer a flat base. I wish I had a good 215 metal mold like that. The bullet on the left looks like it needs a firmer crimp when I blow it up.

Do the plunk test with your barrel.

They should fall in with a "plunk", and the rear of the case should be just a bit below the barrel hood.
Also you should be able to spin the bullet in your barrel with your fingers.

Drop the rounds in and push in on them with your thumb, then see if they fall out by themselves or they have to be pried out.

I think they're seated way too far out for a semi auto pistol.
I'd seat them deeper, until about half of that top band is showing.

Thanks JB good advice, I will give them the tests. Did the plunk test when I first starting loading and the rounds passed. Will put the other rounds to the other tests you mentioned.

JB you're right, tried the push test and the round stuck just slightly and was removed by slight pressure with my finger nail. Looks like a few thousands as you mentioned should bring them into proper dimension.

Just adjusted the COAL to 1.18" cycled through the M&P with ease.

Seating depth of bullet length is a weapon thing.

True, most SWC designs need to be seated deeper but then
there are some "Sloppy" old pistols like mine that for some
reason like longer oal lengths in all shapes of coated or jacket
bullets that I load.

I also had a old 9mm Radom that feed anything as long as it
was 115gr or heavier in jacked bullets.
OAL of 1.08" to 1.170" was a good thing.

I would love to shoot SWCs in my G30 but it hates them. Tried everything to no avail.

I load 200gr SWC to 1.234 inches. Runs great in my PC1911.

Will not feed in my Sig C3. Too long.

For what it's worth, I never measure COAL when loading SWC's. I default to what I learned in the Speer manual 30 years ago, leave 1/32" of the bullet above the case edge, taper crimp, and go.

Shot the loads through the M&P at COAL of 1.18" and fed and shot fine. I have a Kahr CW45 and it is very finicky on COAL. Ran two magazines of this round through the Kahr and nary a bobble. I'm impressed, accuracy potential appeared good but I was just function testing, firing as fast as I could cycle both weapons. Think I'll cut back on powder charge as cases were flying 6ft plus to the rear. Still a foot of snow on the ground and more flying in the air at the moment, will chrono when weather permits.
