Default Hornady Puller

I was on the Hornady website and noticed they recommend their camlock puller is not for use on handgun calibers. Any idea why?

Now, the point is I bought one of these things used from a fellow, and I didn't know that little trinket of info. My responsibility; just didn't imagine that.

Sometimes with handgun ammo , there is not enough bullet sticking out that the cam can lock onto.
You are correct , the catalog says in all caps , "INTENDED FOR RIFLE CARTRIDGES ONLY-DO NOT USE FOR PISTOL CARTRIDGES " , no fine print there , they want you to know it ain't for pistol ammo.
Try it on the ammo you want pulled there is a chance it will work , it's not dangerous but don't call Hornady and tell them it's defective.
Did previous owner include instructions , there is a trick or two getting them to work. I never had much luck with them.
It's not just Hornandy's , all collet type pullers have this problem pulling short bullets. For handgun pulling the old fashioned Inertia puller is still best.

I never saw the "rifle only" stuff either and I wonder if that's possibly a new addition. I own a cam lock and multiple collets but have only used on rifle. I don't see the actual "rifle only" line in the instructions but I only skimmed. I DO see it on their website!

I wanted to research some things so I thought I'd save others the effort with these links

Yes they will work for pistol but you have to adjust them exact.
a#9 collet will work for 380 and 9mm
a#11 collet will work for .40
and a #13 collet will work for .45

Yeah, I get it. I've done my homework (now) and I accept responsibility for my blunder. Looking further at the Hornady material, they don't advertise any collet sizes that are obviously for a handgun caliber. Oh well. I thought maybe it had to do with the rim of the case.
