does anybody know if they make a hollow point for 45 acp? thanks for any info

Um...yes. There are plenty available from numerous manufacturers.
Hornady, Nosler, Montana Gold, Sierra, Zero & many others. Check stock and order when available.

I've had great luck with Everglades bullets. Similar to the XTP but quite a bit cheaper.

I use Hornady XTP, 230 grain. However the OAL should be 1.230" in order to work properly in pistols with a short throat (start of rifling). Problematic pistols include a Springfield XDs or XDM2 with a 3.3" barrel.
Do a "plunk" test with a loaded cartridge and the unmounted barrel. The cartridge should fall free, even if pressed into the chamber firmly with your thumb.
If the ogive jams in the rifling, you may get a misfire and find it extremely difficult to clear the pistol.

Anybody notice a difference between the 9th edition and the 10th edition of the hornady reloading book? Which one would you go buy? Some of the reloading stats are different, thanks for any info

Since about 1965, JHP have been available for the 45acp. Todays JHP are more reliable, at least from the major manuf. If you are energetic you can even make your own. Keep in mind some HP are NOT designed for expansion but accuracy. Most plated fall into this category.

They added some new powders & some new cartridges, so I would go with the latest. Many of us update each edition or two. As some older powders become less popular but still available, good to have as many data points as possible.

The question is NOT is there a 230 gr JHP for the 45 but what do you intend to do with it?
If its for real world self defense I'd rather go with factory Federal HST or Speer Gold Dots. If its just target shooting then Zero is great and way way less costly then XTP.

Beat me to it. Target, competetion, self defense? As mscampbell2734 said, no reason spending money on SD hollow points if you are just going to shoot paper.
Two notable additions in the Hornady 10th are CFE Pistol and Alliant BE-86.
