The sportsman club that I am a member of recently installed hi flow air scrubbers and posted the instructions on the wall. I think it really has helped with the smoke, lead and there seems to be less powder residue on the floor and benches. 30 dollar annual membership dues and 2 dollar range fee for both the indoor and out door ranges. Magnums on steel targets.

I am so fortunate. Our local gun clup/range has been leasing its property from the City for the last 40 years. It's in a floodplain and will never be developed. Membership is limited to 600 because of insurance. Membership is $100 for the first year and $50 a year thereafter. No other fees. They give you a combination to the gate and you can come and go when you want. No range officer, ever. The only rules are....pick up your trash, no drinking while you're shooting, and no 50BMG's. They have 4-H meets and IDPA and other organizations at times you have to work around but it's a great place to shoot.

Amen to that. I've shot at a few indoor ranges but only when they are practically empty.

The indoor range I go to doesn't allow steel or aluminum case ammo because they sell the cases to a commercial reloader.

The same at my range. And, the rule is that any brass on the floor is theirs'. They are quick with the broom, and shove the brass down range. All bullets need to be plated or jacketed. They sell Xtreme plated bullets, and also have a reloading operation. They sell their ammo and brass. Fortunately, I shoot only revolvers, and I keep my brass. I guess the semi auto guys have to buy their brass back from the range, if they reload. Its the only range in my county, and the ranges in adjacent counties have similar rules. I can live with them, as long as I can use my reloads. I wish they would let me hang a soda can on the target holders. I get a little tired of only being able to punch holes in paper. My guns can do so much more. They do have steel plates that they put out at certain times for some kind of challenge, but it is for semi autos only. You do have to purchase special frangible ammo from them for the plates, and only 9mm, 40 S&W and 45ACP.

Best,
Rick

Or they could use one of these.

It is weighted and can be placed on the ground, a bench or a tripod adjacent to your gun.

Default Knocking brass to the floor

I asked if something happens to one of my firearms who was liable they said Precision Cartridge. On brass they say all brass must be left in the range the sign says any brass that hits the floor belongs to the range. So I did shoot revolver there one day and when the guy saw I was putting my brass on the bench to save them the range officer came over and politely knocked them all to the floor. It's to long to tell the rest of the story but lets just say I do not go there anymore not even if it is 20 below zero and I really want to shoot. I go to my club which is outdoor with about 15 layers of cloths on.
If a range officer knocks you brass to the floor that is no different than reaching into your bag and taking your brass or your ammo. It's theft.

I hope you made that a very memorable day for that nitwit. I know I sure would have. Some people are unbelievable.

Some of the ranges you guys are talking about are unbelievable.
Brass that hits the floor is theirs
You aren't allowed to do anything or use anything to prevent your brass from hitting the floor
If your brass isn't hitting the floor they will HELP it hit the floor
You can't use aluminum or steel cases because the cases you paid for are going to become their cases and they only want real brass
You can't shoot your reloads, but you can shoot theirs
You can't shoot your reloads, but you can shoot the ones they sell - but if your gun is damaged they're not responsible

If the ranges around here had any of those kinds of rules I wouldn't be going there - and I'd discourage everyone else I could from going there too.

Default If you dont say, they wont know

The range I belong to doesn't ban reloads so I don't worry.
what I would do if they did is put my reloads in a factory package box , and shoot away

That is completely obnoxious!
What the hell is wrong with some people? Needless to say, I would never spend one dollar there and encourage everyone I came into contact with (including online) to avoid the place like the plague. I can not believe what some of these range owners think is acceptable.

I would not shoot lubed lead indoors...even if it was allowed, but some of these onerous restrictions are simply over the top.
