Default 41 caliber wadcutter

I'm trying to find a 41 caliber wadcutter and have it reasonably priced, and I haven't been very successful yet. I would like to develop a target load to replace my LSWCs. The only source I've found is Matt's bullets at $23/100, which is more than double the cost of my LSWCs.

I got so frustrated that I considered casting my own, but living in NY lead is a pain to find, so I went back to searching for already manufactured bullets.

Has anyone every found a outlet for wadcutters?

No. I shoot a .41 also and it looks like the only full wadcutter is the one offered by Matt's. I agree it is a little pricey. I just went through the list that is posted on the forum of bullet companies and not one other wadcutter. I've been shooting Rim Rocks SWC's but might try some of the Penn bullets offerings. While I'm using them for targets, I'm running them out in the 1000 - 1100 fps range.

I understand the allure of the wadcutter for target loads, I cast my own solid and hollow base WC's for my 41's, 44's and 45's. While they are accurate, in my experience they are no more accurate than my SWC's for all practical purposes. Comparing them from my ransom rest, bagged from a bench or standing the WC and SWC from a real world standpoint are very similar performers when loaded at the same 850 - 900 fps range. Understand your connundrum regarding acquiring lead. For normal target shooting, I just load the more easily obtained SWC and drive on. If you just have to scratch that itch, buy some from Matt's and see if there is any huge difference for you.

I'm a reloader / caster . I decided I wanted a 41 magnum wad cutter so I ordered the mold from Tom @ Accurate Molds . I shot a few cylinders full , then went back to my normal swc . I cast and shot the real " Keith " swc , HG 258 . I ordered the mold from Northern Valley Machine Co up in N Dakota . I order my alloy as wheel weights have gotten a poor choice , too many times their either steel or zinc . The " Keith " swc is very accurate and it cuts a real nice hole on targets . I only have to cast one bullet and work up loads for just one bullet .

Thanks for letting me know about your testing of the WC vs SWC for accuracy. That is what I had been wondering, as I was going to use the WC to eat up some of the empty case space to see if there was any change in FPS numbers or accuracy.

My data isn't here with me at work, but I found something like a 20-50fps gain by switching to from 41mag to 41 special brass. I'm using a lighter charge in the 41special, so I was wondering if I could take that last remaining space out and see what happens.

I may just order a box from Matt just to satisfy my curiosity.

I too agree with the guys who said the SWC is as accurate as the WC.The rason the WC is dubbed ''target''is because it cuts full diameter hole in paper to make scoring easier.
I've tested WC vs SWC in my 44s and the SWC will be as accurate as my WC and as a bonus, the SWC will carry its accuracy well past 50yards where the WC starts to loose stability.
Good shooting!
