What are the advantages over the 650 aside from primer pocket swaging, and having an extra space in the tool head for a bullet feeder while retaining a powder check die? I don't think I would ever go to auto drive, so no adavtange there for me.

I did not like the 1050 and specifically didn't like the primer pocket swager.
Occasionally a primer would try to seat after the case was in the swager and would fire because the swager didn't open the pocket up just right. While everything is shielded properly so that there was no trajedy, it would always bring me to the front. I got rid of it in short order. I have owned and loaded on a Star and also Dillon 550's and I prefer the Dillon 550 for my own use. The 1050 was too fast for my eyes and hands to keep up with.

I do not own a 1050 however one of my re-loading friends has two of them. I've seen them and have spoken to him regarding this "commercial" type of reloading press. My take is I would ONLY recommend this model for a person who intends to use it for ONE CALIBER ONLY and loads tens of thousands of that one load. Changing calibers on the 1050 takes a good amount of time and is a bit complicated. While there are many advantages to the robust design and multi stations on the 1050, for the average shooter here it is NOT a better press! Most here would be much better off with a 650 which is capable of being converted to different calibers in a matter of minutes. Since I know no one who only loads a single caliber, I can not in good conscience recommend the 1050 for the "hobbyist" and would reserve the 1050 for either a commercial operation or someone who can afford to use it for a single cartridge.

The Dillon line-up has become famous for their no BS lifetime warranty and stellar customer service. This warranty comes with all their presses EXCEPT the commercially intended 1050 - just so you know!

Looked at the 1050, looked at the XL650. Got to try them side by side as I live an hour from Dillon in Phoenix. For me and my volume of loading as well as the seven different calibers I load for, I chose the XL650 and never looked back. If I was to load 10,000 round of 5.56 a month exclusively, I would have chosen the 1050.

I do have and use a 1050 or two. I also have a 650 or two. I must say I like the 1050 a bit more as it is a bit more robust... smoother too. I don't change calibers on either. I am contemplating buying another (probably) 650 tomorrow. probably in 38/357. Amazingly I don't have a 550 as I seem to be dyslexic and can't seem to run a manually turned machine people call a progressive. I do have an AT-500.
