Default Reloading 45 auto for shield 45

Hello what are some of your favorite reloads for the shield 45? I have been reloading for my 1911 for a while and use a good combination of different bullets and my favorite combo powder for the 1991 has been bullseye. And 230 grn rn exrtreme plated bullets. Make a good accurate combo for plinking the old 1911.
Anyway what are some of your combo you like and what types of powder bullets you like to reload for your shield thanks for your opinions.

From recent experience check a dummy round make up to make sure the bullet profile you choose works well in the Shield as I have found there is very little throat clearance before hitting the lands and grooves.
As far as reloads mine was fine shooting plated SWC's from Xtreme and Berry's. Powders, HP38, Titegroup, WST, HS6, IMR Target, BE-86, BE all work fine for me.
Do a plunk test on your Shield barrel with the rounds you have made up for the 1911 and see that they drop in and sit properly for OAL.

I use Bullseye and 200 gr SWC both plain and power coated. Both my Gold Cup and my shield love these.

I done a plunk test on dummy round in chamber. All is good I got a nice accurate target load. Now I am shooting 200 gr extreme plated bullets col is 1.250 with 4.2 gr of be powder. Works real nice for plinking In the 45 shield. with a very light tapered crimp. My 1911 loves this combo too. In my original post I put 230 gr but actually I have 200 gr bullets

Wish I’d found this earlier. I am new to reloading pistols. I bought some nosler custom competition 185grain. You are right they won’t work in my shield they hit the lands and grooves. Drove me crazy I just knew I’d done something wrong. But worked in a friend’s guns of other brands. New to this site and posting.

I haven't done it, but reloading for small for caliber guns can be tricky. I'd stay with 230 grain slugs, and load a little on the warm side. My carry ammo in 9mm Shield is Q4318 NATO, almost a +p load. Not that I have a problem with SAAMI 115 or 124, but I just want to make sure she cycles. Same principle for what you want to do.

You cannot go wrong with your listed combination....Bullseye and 230's ( 5 gr. of BE usually replicates factory ammo and a 230 gr. projectile)

So far my favorite load for the Shield is a 185XTP and 8.5gn of Power Pistol. A bit snappy but very accurate. Just noticed this is an old thread.

My 9mm loads fit my 6906 chamber fine but stuck in the lands of my Sig P226. Seated the bullet slightly deeper and now all my reloads are good in all my 9mms. No biggie.

I shoot all my reloads for my 1911's and 625's in my 45 Shield. I/m talking cast bullet here.

I bought a spare barrel for my 10mm.. it would not chamber the same round as the original.

Went to my GS he ran a reamer in it and handed it back, no charge..

Fixed that problem.

You can easily and inexpensively have a barrel throated to readily accept all bullet profiles. Any decent gunsmith should be able to do this, or I can recommend one if anyone is interested. I discovered this many years ago when I installed a Bar-Sto barrel in a 1911 and i wouldn't play well with my hardball ammo.

As a Bullseye shooter I get tickled when people mention plated bullets & accuracy in the same sentence . If it were true we'd have been using them for years . If one wants best accuracy it's either lead or jacketed period . Jury is still out on powder coated . I have never seen a cleaned 50yd target shot with either plated or powder coated bullets . I have seen thousands shot with lead & jacketed . I understand many shoot indoors now days & some ranges don't want lead . Also most do not shoot @ 25yds let alone 50 either .
