Default Found This While Stopping In For Corncob Media

I stopped by a local shop during lunch break Tuesday (Receipt Date Is Wrong) to pick an extra pack or two of media.

I didn't find the media, but I did find this new never used previous generation RCBS Pro Trim powered case trimmer.

I have an identical one that's endured at least twenty years, much of which was in my non climate controlled garage until we moved to our present home where my loading is done in an area of the finished basement.

The old one's motor has weakened and even with a fresh cutter has stalled a time or two while using a 3 way attachment. It was still getting it done, I simply have to keep my hand on the lever to maintain a lower pressure.

Any way I didn't want to spend $350+ on a replacement and have been eyeing some lower cost alternatives. The new Lyman is one I've bee most curious about, but I can see my poor gripping ability being a problem with it.

This one was on the shelf marked $325 with another sticker just below the first @ $200. I opened the box looking to see just what all was there. Everything was in place, factory sealed bags of hardware.

I tried to find some reason not to buy it. 220v? Nope, Missing damaged parts? Nope. Just the previous generation.

I asked how many $$ it would take for me to leave with it? He asked what it was marked? I told hime $325 and $200. His reply, I need to get the $200. I asked if that was drive out, his reply was, "cash yes sir."

I plan to convert my original to hand turn. That way when the power's off I can turn the crank to keep warm

It ain't a "yard sale" bargain, but it sure beats buying the latest and greatest for much closer to $400 by the time I pay $350+ shipping and 8% tax.

The motor sings...

My 20 year old Trim-Mate actually sounds worse and wobbles a bit now too. Old age and higher volume auto loader rounds have taken their toll. (removing primer crimps)

Right now I can't afford to run across many more "bargains."

Nice find at a great price! I hooked up a HF power drill to mine - works very well.

Nice find! Deals like that are very few and far between these days.
BTW...ask your LGS why he has his receipt printer set up for European date format (Day/Month/Yr). Your receipt is 2 Jan 21.

I had one several years ago, it was well used when I bought it. The problem I had with it was: The shell plate tension was no longer consistent, and allowed the case to be located at different locations from the cutter head. This ended up allowing freshly trimmed cases to be off by up to .015' (more commonly .008"). When I started loading (1979) that would have been close enough! But target shooting has take us far beyond those days. I never figured out if the design was flawed or the movable parts were worn out. I'm sure if you keep your case insertion consistent and keep the rim opening as small as possible, you will achieve better results.

I loosen and relalign mine on occasion. The assemblies will tend to get out of square over time especially if I don’t use direct downward pressure on the shell holder lever.

The old one has been very consistent for me and knowing cause and effect to watch for helps me be more consistent too.

Nice find! I love the receipt, wrong date, no shop name, no description, nothing, just $200. So old school just like the deal.
