Default Getting back into reloading!

Hi there. I just registered with the forums and am trying to get back into reloading in my mid 30s after having done some reloading with my dad for a couple years in my teens. I've had a couple progressives boxed up for years I've been moving around with for years now (Navy guy).

I've been checking out the forum, seen there's a decent sticky section for caliber information. The forum itself seems to only have a couple months worth of posts. Is there an archive of older info to checkout?

I just put a 10x20 shed in my backyard a few weeks back. It's mostly empty with a few windows for ventilation. I bought a well loved model 10-5 this past weekend and think I'll try my hand at shooting some wax with it in the shed to get a start. Just bought a thousand wax bullets to get a quick start. I have a pile of .308 still loaded from when I was a kid and won't shoot for a while but need to get back to loading SWCs for my model 10 and 19.

Been checking out what I can on the forum. Lot of good info. Still have my dad's manuals from the 70s and 80s. While I'm not interested in nothing other than WCs and SWCs at the moment, I'll have to hit the books. I feel like it'll be starting over, it's been so long.

Shooting wax bullets is fun and you can even make your own
with some Paraffin wax and a few extra items.

You will need to mark the 38-45 cases as "For wax only" if you
drill out the primer hole, which can improve your loads.

A bed sheet to catch the bullets from hitting the floor/ground....
will also keep your wax much cleaner, if possible.

Good shooting.

First purchase should be an air conditioner.

Congrats on getting back into reloading. Make sure to be careful with the wax bullets. In many jurisdictions discharging a firearm is illegal and it doesn't matter if the projectile is wax, lead , copper, wood or whatever.

Here's a handy on-line data source for many current powders:

Shot some wax last night! Had drilled out the flash holes to 3/16 but it bound everytime using MSP primers. Ill go to 7/64 and see if that does it. Ok accuracy with 2 fliers though it was shooting a few inches low from 10'. Will go to 7/64 and try again.

Got to use the press for the first time since I was a kid. Found out it's an RL-450. Never read a book on it, so I'll have to find one and read up. Looks to be in good shape for sitting in a box for over 10 years, then moving with me from FL to GA, up to VA then back to GA in the last 5. Once I made a couple adjustments and primed that first round, the other 49 were a breeze.

Welcome back. We've been waiting for you.

Re-reading those manuals is an excellent idea. These days lots of load recipes are available direct from the powder manufacturers online.
