Brass catcher
Anybody have good advice on which type of brass catcher that would work on an M&P shield 45. Does anyone use them or do you just pick up off floor.

Doing the chickendance is good to stay slim but it didn't work for me.Guess I've been shooting too much revolver. One of my friend took a hanger wire, bent it in an odd shape, soldered or glued some wiremesh onto it and put it under the right grip slab of his auto.Sounds complicated? You bet it is.The thing works 90% of the time. The moral of the story is this:he's got to bend down anyways for the 10% leftover.Thing in my book is useless and looks downright ridiculous.I don't need THAT to look ridiculous! Can do that on my own!

Another of my friends took a cardboard box aprox 12'' wide X 20''high.He puts it standing up on the bench on his right side(ejection port of the gun).He cut out the top half of the box and posistion himself so that the brass goes 99% in the box.
How does it work?
Lousy!
A)He would be a very good shooter if he'd position himself so as to group nicely on the target...not in the recovery cardboard box
B)He is the only guy at the range who shoots .32cal ammo so any brass on the ground not reclaimed goes back to him anyways! He doesn't have to bend down!
On top of it,everybody name him after the label on the box he brings in!I wouldn't like it to be called Mr Ikea livingroom coffee table''.
At that price,I'll keep doing the chickendance or leave the brass where it lies. After all,one has got some pride!!!

When I go out in the sticks for some chrony work with the 9mm's
I take a table and chair with a gun rest and a 12x18" cardboard box
on my right with a brick inside for any "Breeze that happens to come along.
It got 121 out of 125, on the last trip. Good enough for me.
My indoor range does not allow chronys or reloads and they keep
the brass that hits the floor.
Factory steel cases (50) is at $8.50 a box, here in town.
Nah, nana nah nah. Take that.

When shooting from a table, a friend of min uses a contraption that looks like a small soccer goal with a fine mess net. He uses for 22's through 45's and on semi-automatic rifles 22's through 308. It works great from a bench.
For standing I set up a 12' by 15' painters drop cloth, and stand about a foot and a half from the left edge. it catches about 90-95% of pistol cases. If shooting in 4" grass, that is all I recover, and this way I don't waste a good portion of my life pecking like a chicken for brass.
I don't bother with any catcher or tarp with 9mm or pocket auto brass. We just pick up what we find and go celebrate another fine shooting session come to a close!

I have a homemade brass catcher.
I got a mesh type laundry bag from walmart. Pulled out the the string and replaced it with the spring wire from an old windshield sunshade. This keeps it open. I then made a clamp out of some old TV antenna hardware and mounted it to a length of aluminum rod, also from the TV antenna. Attached this to a small square piece of plywood that can be C clamped to a bench.

At the indoor range, I use a "Lobby Broom" (think of the person in the theater lobby picking up popcorn). Works well, I did cut the handles down to make it more portable

I use mesh tarps. One or two. They are black and show the brass easily. Mine are 14'x20' from Harbor freight. They have small holes (think door screen) and the wind doesn't mess with them too much. On very windy days, I weigh the corners down with something...anything. Depending on how far the cases fly (Sigs really toss 'em!), I adjust my position next to them. When done, fold and collect the brass in the center. Scoop out! Easy peasy!

Champion's Choice makes an excellent one for $80. Also, try the nut pickers available from Midway and Dillons.

I use a corn broom and dust pan with a handle when I shoot inside. I get 100% brass return. Outside I have a brass collector, I got from Midway USA I get about 97% return brass.

We use this, a homemade one, using a laundry bag from Walmart, a cheap camera tripod. Depending on the day, I catch 90% plus. Today we went to the range and I probably caught 98% and recovered all of it.
It's ugly, a pain to set up, but it works.

Nope, it's part of the semi auto experience. Learn to embrace it.....or you could just bring a revolver :-)

The RO's at my club, who take care of the brass at the indoor range, say, "the last hour of shooting should be revolvers only." They are good though, they squeegee all the brass to the outside, and let you pick thru it to get your own. I shoot only nickel plated indoors, so I can tell mine from all the rest. What's left gets recycled.

Supply a friend with a hockey goalie's mask and a large pillow case.
Maybe some thin leather gloves.
Have them catch the flying brass.

MidwayUSA.com sells a real nice one. I put it between my friend and I on the table at the range so I don't keep hitting him with my brass. It works very well. Just do a search at Midway for Brass Catcher.

I like that, Ole Joe Clark. I need to do something like that so I can shoot my Coonan Classic more. I love shooting the gun, but it chunks brass 30 feet at least and I hate to lose my 357 Mag brass. With something like that I have a decent chance of recovering the majority of my brass.

I have a shield 45 and the brass goes every where but where I want to. I also do the chicken dance, all I see is nickles on the floor. I still loose at least 10 percent of the brass. I tried a brass catcher with my gold cup a long time ago and it did not work too well, I gave up. with the shield it trows them every where. I shoot at an indoor range and they bounce back from the wall and to the front of me so I loose them. I hate that. If anybody has a brass catcher that works I want to hear about it.

I also have the shield .45 and I know what you mean about the brass going everywhere, last time I shot at indoor range I think most of my brass ended up in front of line.

I made these for a friend who has a very bad hip and can't pick up his brass. Well really I made them for me so I don't have to pick up his brass anymore. LOL
They work well so I'll be using the one he doesn't want.
Dollar store butterfly nets and second hand store tripods.

I bought the Caldwell, When standing outside, it's pretty much useless! I think I caught one out of fifty! When you take it off the stand and put it next to you on the bench, it'll catch about 90%. I don't do much bench shooting.

Here's the one MidwayUSA sells.
It works great and its base is weighted so it is stable on the bench. The base also has a threaded hole for a tripod so it can be used while the shooter is standing. My semi-auto guns toss all their empties into it once you find the perfect positioning for it.

Brass Catcher
Lost way too much brass in back yard.
Built this catcher from 3/8 rebar and nylon window screen.
Wide enough window for shooting a row of 12 steel plates.
Easily captures 99%.

Unquestionably the best design I've seen in 40 years of picking up brass!
