A fair price for once fired brass?
Since I don't re-load I have no need for once fired brass.
I have about 500 each, uncleaned, with the spent primer still in the case. These are once-fired Fiocchi and Blazer Brass in .38 spl & 9mm. Any comments on a fair sell price are appreciated.

Retail stores have Factory (50) alum. at $10.99 and steel case at $8.49, loaded and ready to go.............
I looked this up after a indoor range trip where they keep all brass.....................
Good luck.

The last 38spl case I bought were $40.00/1000 shipped.
The 9mm are the cheapest cases at about $0.03- $0.05 each
I don't reload 9mm,I buy 100 packs of aluminum case at Walmart at a bit less than $20 and don't care about picking up my empties.
My indoor range will move any of my fired cases on the floor to the rear wall that I ask the range workers to save other wise they get moved into 5 gallon pails that are in the floor covered by metal plates with holes.

That's about right for my area as well. The last time I bought 9mm cases, it was $40 for 3,000. That is only 1.3 cents each. I can buy it for .02 each anytime. People who don't have easy access to a range will usually be willing to pay more. I can pick up quite a bit for free.

I agree, as well. Also, I would not buy any 9mm Blaser Brass cases. The base/rim tends to get warped after a couple of reloads and does not feed into the shell plate of my LnL progressive press. I don't load my 9mm hot, either... Has anybody else had this issue with Blaser Brass 9mm cases?

The last time I bought 9mm brass, it was $3.61 for 200 cases (plus shipping). The thing with buying on-line is that you have to assume the brass is range pick-up and may have been fired and reloaded multiple times. If I was dealing with someone in person who I knew was shooting factory loads and then selling what he picked up, so I knew they were truly once-fired, I'd gladly pay $5 a hundred for the peace of mind.
I haven't bought 38 Special brass since the 1990's, but the same guy that sells 200 9mm for $3.61 wants $7.68 for 100 of his range pick-up 38s, so I would say that for bona fide once-fired brass you could ask $8 or even $10 a hundred. 38 Special is a low-pressure, true straight wall case, so the brass lasts forever and people may not be as eager to pay for it.

The last batch of 38spl cases I bought a while ago were all good after I retumbled and deprimed them but there was 1 case that stopped my reloading rhythm dead in it's tracks.
It was a 1950 vintage 38spl case with a Large Primer hole that had a Peters 38S&W Special headstamp

I also found one of the Peters large primer case.
At first, I pondered what sort of over-pressure load would be required to blow the primer pocket to that size. As I thought about it more, I realized what I was looking at. When I tried a large pistol primer in the pocket, it all came clear.
I set it aside, with other pieces of interest.

I have not had any problems with Blaser brass cases. But, I use a single stage press and it may not be as sensitive to irregularities in the rim as a progressive press.

I recently paid 6 bucks per 100 for 38spl range brass, but it was at a local shooting club fundraiser, so I didn't mind the price.

Times have changed, I use to see 38 special brass all over the ground and benches at my local range, now it is all 9mm and .40 S&W. I think if you put up a notice on your ranges bulletin board I am sure you would sell the 38 special brass quickly, the 9 mm would sell for a lot less. If I see somebody shooting 38 specials and 357's and they don't reload I will often ask them for the empties and buy them a Coke, usually a win win

That's about what I see. Not a lot of 38 spl in the buckets at the range. Lots of 9mm and .223 tho. I'm flush.

Backlighting, keep in mind as you set your price that you have a premium product. You have brass from factory loads that you can cerify have only been fired once - and you can even identify the gun(s) you fired it in!
What people pick up at the range or what they buy on-line as "once fired" brass has really been fired a "God only knows" number of times. In your case, you know the number of times to be a unity.
Someone will tell you they get all they want for free or only pay a couple of cents each. Bid them good day. It may take a little exposure to your local market, but I assure you, you will find someone like me who is willing to pay extra to get brass whose history is known.

Just now got a chance to read your reply.
Nicely stated and appreciated. When selling I will list the manufacturer + the firearm(s) used. In my case that's the Airweight snubby and a Walther PPX.

A check of components for unprocessed 38 special brass ran $26 per 500, 9mm was $16. +++ for known history and same brand, --- for non standard brands. I would price it to sell by figuring the shipping rate and splitting the difference, IOW $10 to ship, bump the price by $5 and state that it includes shipping.

I never leave my brass at the range if I can find it in the grass. I only shoot outdoors. Habit and good manners.
Goes back to the police training days when after a long day at the range or qualification the last thing we had to do was "police" the range - pick up all the brass. Everyone was issued one of those big restaurant size tin cans and picked up then.
Wish folks would do a better job of picking up brass at the public National Forest ranges.

I get mine from a local place , precision once fired brass , the 9mm sell for $9.00 / 500 mixed and 38 special go for $20.00 / 500.
That's mixed head stamps and unprocessed.
