Old Lyman Turret Press
I inherited a old turret press I cant figure out how to adjust the dies. The ram go's all the way up and torches the bottom of the turret . When I add a shell holder. the holder will fit inside of the turret. When all the way up. do I adjust the dies from this spot .I called Lyman and they sent me a manual it wasn't much help. Some dies only have half the threads in the turret when I adjust them like I do on my RCBS Rock chucker.

With the shellholder in the ram, and the ram lifted all the way up, the bottom of the dies should just touch the shellholder.
If you're using your seating die as your crimp die, put a nickel on top of the shellholder and adjust the die so that the bottom of the die touches the nickel when the ram is raised all the way.
That way, you can adjust the die down to apply the proper crimp, after seating a bullet.
Send me a pm if you want more information.

Let's see some photo's of this.....I've never encountered a Lyman , or any other press , where the ram touches the underside and the shell holder would extend into the hole for the die.
I'm wondering if someone replaced the ram with one that is too long.
My old Lyman A-A Turret doesn't have this problem , even when a snap in shellholder adapter is in place.

Is this a Tru-Line Jr. (usually orange) or a Spar-T (usually red turret and grey body) or a T-Mag (all black or orange & black)? There may be a few others too, so a description or photo will help us help you. A second question is: Which diameter are the dies? the 310 & Tru-Line used 9/16" or the current standard 7/8" x 14 threads?

its all orange. The turret is black. the only marks on it besides the Lyman on the press .are the number J8 on the toggle that connects the ram to the handle. Ill try to post photos.

The Spar T holds 6 dies. I have a red "All American" with four "stations" or threaded for 4 different dies. Sounds like you may not have an all original parts press. My All American has about 0.350" clearance between the bottom of the turret and the top of the shell holder. Could you have a replace ram that is not correct for the press that should be shorter. Like everyone else, a photo would be nice to see if we can help troubleshoot.
