Default .44 Magnum & Sierra FPJ

Hi guys,

until now I was using only factory ammo for my 629 5" Classic. At this point I have enough cases to start with the reloading. Inbetween I've bought all the stuff - Sierra Tournament Master FPJ 220gr. bullets, CCI 350 Mag primers and Vihtavuori N105 powder, because here in Europe I see the Hodgdon handgun powders very rarely.
So, here is the question: I made few calculations in QuickLoad, but what speed and possible groups I can expect with this bullet? I know it depends on powder and capability of the shooter, but I am looking for your experiences with Sierra FPJ 220gr in 44 Magnum.

Thanks.

I haven't used that bullet, so I can't help there, but let us know what distance you're looking to get your best results at.

Vihtavuori is less common here, & more expensive, so that may limit responses too.

Good luck with your reloading, it's a fun hobby.

If you look up Sierra bullets........
you will find that that bullet is set for under 900fps and over 1300fps.

Your 44.7oz 5" revolver will have the recoil of.......
8.0 grs powder at 954fps at...... 6.39 ft/lbs +/-
22.0 grs of powder at 1300fps at ...... 15.28 ft/lbs +/-

Have fun.
