WW Small Pistol Primers
I have used all standard small pistol Primers interchangeably in the past.
I could not locate CCI500s but WW Small Pistols were available. Would you use the WW's interchangeably with the CCI500's using Speer or Alliant reloading data (38 Spl +P)? Alliant advised "no"

I did a comparrison loading a couple years ago and loaded the same load with Remington, Winchester, CCI, and Federal primers, and the grouping and chronographing could not be distinguished which load was which.

In forty years of reloading I've used whatever brand of primer was available. I have never altered a load due simply to the brand of primer. Works for me.

I bought some since the CCIs were unavailable as well. Last time I'll do that.
Performance wise i saw no difference, but loadability sucks. At least in my equipment.
They are not plated like the CCIs. They hung up in my primer tray and caused delays in loading.

I've been using Winchester small pistol primers exclusively for a while now. Ever since my supply of Federal Primers dried up. I've kept the recopies otherwise the same. The Winchesters are a bit softer than most and run reliably in everything I own (including my light actioned competition tuned guns.) No complaints at all, here.

I don't have any loads that are a maximum (at least not according to published data at the time they were loaded) and I have used primers interchangably without noticing any difference.

I have always used CCI and Win primers interchangeably without a problem.
Just a note, Alliant may be telling you not to use Win primers because Alliant, Speer, CCI and about 4 dozen others are all owned buy ATK/Vista Outdoors. They probably want to keep it in the family.

Huh. Do you think Winchester is softer than Federal. I have always followed the line that Federal was the softest and Winchester one of the harder cups in small pistol. Or is this the case since Winchester switched to unplated cups? I wonder if there any fairly current tests on various primer cups (of all sizes) for hardness that I can read? Thanks.

Ditto. I use anybody's small rifle primers in the majority of my handgun loads such as .38 Special, .38 Super, and .357. In my testing, I have never seen any performance differences in using SR and SP primers in otherwise identical loads. All I load with SP primers are .32 ACP and .380 ACP.
