Duplicating 38-44 velocity in Ruger BH 4 5/8 in
My preference would be 2400 powder, 158 SWC cast (using Bayou coated bullets), and 11.0 grs (use only in my 357 Ruger BH)
Yours?

Obsolete handloading manuals are available from various sources. Many of the old books have such data listed.

One thing you have to remember, is that this is a very old loading. The first to go above the standard 38 special factory load and still using the 38 special case.
S&W beefed up the frame by going to the 44 frame but the longer 357 case was not around yet, so this load was still limited to around 1150fps with the 158gr lead bullet out of the long 6" or longer barrels.
I can easily attain 1124fps with a full 38 load from modern manuals with my 686 6" with Unique powder.
However you can dump more 2400 powder into the 38 case to get the same loading if you need to use that powder.
Back in the 1930's this was a super loading...........
but by todays standards, just a 38 Special +P loading in a 357 Magnum frame.

The older Lyman reloading manuals from the 1950s-60s provided .38-44 loading data using mainly Hercules 2400, with a few loads given using Hercules Unique.
