Need a new brass trimmer
Need to trim my 5.56 and 308 brass for some match shooting. Currently have a RCBS with carbide cutter but not trimming to the specs I need
Can't decide between the Giraud or the Gracy Matchprep??

May I ask what is the problem with the RCBS unit? I have one with the Hornady carbide cutter and am curious as to what to expect.

On my 308 and 338 Lapua brass I use a L.E.Wilson case trimmer. There are 2 ways to get exact same length brass from one batch to the next. I have the Sinclair International stand and micrometer adjuster. One of my friends owns multiple trimmers: one for each case length. They are Loc-Tited to length! He only loads 308 and 30-06! The cases are held in place by a "Die body/Shell holder" and the case length is from a adjustable stop that is set screwed in place. (The RCBS system I had, used a sliding shell plate that didn't always return to zero and very gave poor consistency!) There is a different body for each case family, for example 308 family includes 243, 260 Rem, 7-08, & 358 Win and several wildcats.
When I trim cases, I get cases lengths that very .0005-.0010" But I'm in a hurry. With more patience you could do better!
I use a power adapter and don't see a difference in performance.
For case lengths that very .0010-.0025", I also have the Forrester case length trimmer in Original and Classic models (the Classic is for Buffalo and Elephant size cartridges) This set has attachments for case neck and neck reaming and several other functions. I highly recommend them!
You didn't say what type of rifles, you were using. For Semi-autos I use the Forrester (because of higher output) and for bolt gun and single shots I use the Wilson.
At Steel plate/Tactical matches my semis tend to lose 15 to 25% of their brass in the weed/brush (odds are in 4 matches that brass is gone!) I lost 2 pieces of bolt gun brass in 3 years (18 matches and countless practice sessions!) The 338 LM brass is so big I don't see haw anyone could lose any if the looked! Have fun.

Giraud trimmer imho
I currently use the RCBS with RCBS Trim Pro head. Very uniform. I also have my electric drill on the spindle. Saving for the Giraud.

Must be nice to have a lot of $ to spend.
That being said I must say my old Lyman Universal is still doing a great job after 26 years. Glad I bought it then because even that trimmer is getting expensive.
Good luck with your trimming needs.

I'm a big fan of the Forster's Case Trimmer. Accessories are available for much more than case trimming alone for this tiny lathe. Buying the kit will save you money.

Mine is from Little Crow Gunworks and does a great (and fast) job of case trimming. It attaches to a power drill, and cost in the range of $60-70 as I recall.
