Looking for Recipe for .38 with Speer
I just picked up some Speer GPHP short barrel 135gr for .38 Special to shoot out of my 442.
I'm looking to use my VVN320 but the VV website only lists loading data for 125gr and 140gr. My Lyman 49th ed is the same. Can anyone tell me what a safe starting load and max load would be for +p and standard?
I tried searching but didn't find anything here or google.
Thanks!

Common practice is to go UP in size for data if it's not available. In other words, use data for 140 grain. As always, start low and work up.

The data you want are in Speer reloading manual #14.
Speer now only posts on their website data developed AFTER the issue of the current manual.

Now, if you want to use a Hodgdon powder, .38 spl 135gr data are on the Hodgdon reloading website.

This I knew, I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the actual data. Thank you though!

For the time being, I've only got the VV on hand. Which is why I was going this route. I've gotten by with the Lyman manual so far with 9mm, .38spl plated RN, and .45. It seems silly of me to purchase another manual for a single round. But if in the future I start loading more calibers and running into this problem more often, I'll definitely consider purchasing the Speer Manual.
Though if no one has the actual info, I'll just go with Boogsawaste's advice and go the next size up.

My Speer Manual #14 doesn't have a load with that powder.

I used Alliant Power Pistol when I loaded up some of the same bullets for .38 SPL and .357 Mag. Sorry, but I've never used VV powders, although they have a good reputation, but I've heard that they are somewhat temperature sensitive.

I haven't heard that about temperature before. I'll have to check into that!

What I heard from guys who shoot bullseye pistol matches is that VV310 will change velocity depending on the temperature. They say it will lose velocity under 50 degrees F and gain velocity over 90 degrees F.

Years back I used the Hornady 140gr XTP to do my chrony work
in order to save the more expensive GD bullets.
Found what powders gave the fps that I wanted, then loaded the Speer bullets for paper work.
The funny thing was that the 140 XTP's actually grouped BETTER than the
big mouth Gold Dot's, out of my J frame snub nose..
