Does anyone reload for a ruger old army conversion cylinder. I
reload 45 colt but don't know about a conversion cylinder in a black powder revolver. I would use 255 gr.cast with Unique powder.
Any help would be appreciated.

The conversion cylinder loads should be in the standard pressure 45 Colt range.
DO NOT use loads designated for "Ruger Blackhawks and T/C Contender ONLY " these loads are not for the Ruger Old Army . I know the Old Army is of modern construction and is stout....but the conversion cylinders are not designed for other than standard pressure loads.

I have an identical ROA setup and load 8 grains of Unique under a 255 bullet.

Where can I find a cylinder for a Ruger Old Army? I bought one at Cabela's not long ago(in a moment of weakness). I did get it for a very good price. Actually seems to be unfired

You are looking for a conversion cylinder to 45 Colt right ...at least that is what I assumed. If you want a factory percussion cylinder I'm not sure.

I don't have an Old Army, but I have a couple Pietta 1858 Remington replicas.

I also have both 45 Colt and 45 ACP cylinders for them.

The conversion cylinder company says use only lead bullets, loaded to about 800 FPS or less.

The barrels are not designed to handle jacketed ammo and shooting it would wear them out -- at least that's the Internet buzz reason for the restriction.

Lead bullets also keeps down the pressure a bit.
The rifling is usually cut deep for shooting soft round lead balls and in theory might cut the jacket or plating. I once loaded some jacketed 185 grain jacketed hollow points into a Remington 1858 replica....they weren't that accurate, .451 is too small...they went out the barrel but results were dismal.
Stick to lead .

The Old Army is suppose to use .458 round balls, My best friend used unsized 230 RN 45 ACP castings in his Old Army with great results. I would think 700 to 800 fps would give good results.
