Default 9mm low speed

First off, had to find a new site to post my picture..... bummer

Finally got down and dirty with minimum for my 5" 9mm.
The slide worked and the cases ejected on all but the last loading.
No chrony, just a test run to see if they would work out.
As you can see, I might need to add a little more powder to
come up with cleaner cases, and forget about LOW fps and recoil.

Will do the final test in my C9 3.5" to see if they work in this weapon, also.

In my opinion, you shouldn't try and load for the lowest velocity, but the best accuracy. A 9mm doesn't have enough recoil to bother anyone as long as you stay under the +P. I make one load that is just over 1000 fps with a 124 gr bullet and everything functions properly.

Or perhaps a faster powder will clean up the soot.

I developed a Sub-900fps load for my 9's, using Trap 100. The powder is obsolete, so I'm not going to bother with specifics.

The slide operates, the bullets put holes in paper (quite accurately too!), and the brass all piles up just to my right. No chasing brass in the dirt.

What's not to like ?

Default My best combo

147 gr coated 9mm SWCs with light loads of Acc #7. I was surprised by how tight my groups were. Recoil is more of a push. There's no need to go down to where the gun is barely operable.

Heavy bullets and fast powder are the best recipe for low recoil I've found.

I did this slow "Thing" just for giggles and curiosity.
My starting loads are a lot faster and the brass has no soot on them
and yes, they are up in fps until they were accurate.

In my 3.5" C9 pistol my plated ball starting loads finally came out to....
115gr @ 984fps.......... 124 @ 945 and 147 @ 835.

In my heavy 5" 9mm I settled for a little higher starting loads.
115gr @ 1030............. 124 @ 993 ........... 147 @ 855.

I was hoping for sub-sonic loads with 115 & 124 weights but that turned out
to be quite the chore with the long barrel that puts out high fps !!

Did he tell you you need to change your recoil spring to get that to run????
That load would also not even sniff 9mm minor PF for gun games. Just sayin.

One thing that has happen to me with the slowest loads, while wearing head muffs..

is the slow movement of the slide action and the "Ka..Chung" sound
it makes and you feel the working parts in your hand, as the round is fired.

With faster, louder loads, I can not pick this up.......
not that I want to make a habit of doing this but it is sort of slick.
Only drawback, is that this usually comes with F/F or F/E !!

A 115 at only 600fps ?? Mercy.

This is what I exp using 160-165gr @ 780fps. The slide was slow enough to watch as you follow the front site, just weird. I can't imagine, if true, that you can even get a slide to function with 115gr @ 600fps. Someone would have to show me the video.

+1;

I got a 147gr Speer TMJ with a long OAL of 1.165" to shoot
710-738fps in my 3.5" C9 pistol, as my lowest ever fps loading.

I feel a lot safer with this CFE powder at 812fps, though.

Lowest 115gr for me is out of a 3" at a 890fps average.

I have loaded 9x19 down as low as 2.0 gns BE under a cast 75 grain button headed wadcutter. Its like a .22 recoil wise. No failure to cycles either, each time I pull the trigger back 60% that cylinder rotates 72 degrees and locks up just fine;-)

It runs my M&P 5" just fine. Actually I have two M&Ps one is a Pro and the other is a 5" performance center And that load runs both guns. Don't think I could go any lower then that. I started with 5.5 gr. and worked my way down to 4.8 gr and he was right.
