Default Picked up some Alliant new 'Sport Pistol' powder

I guess I am always willing to try something new in a powder if it casts itself across a few of the calibers I like to load so I have had my eyes out for the new Sport Pistol powder from Alliant. Well todays visit to one of the LGS's paid off as they got some in.

Planning on trying it out in 45acp with both 185 and 200gr SWC's coated and in 38 sol 148/158gr.

If anyone has anything to share on this powder post it here.
Karl

Update #1 8/2/17
The stuff meters like a dream in my cheapie Lee powder drop! Spot on consistent so that is an excellent start. Nice on fill volume on the 45acp cases. If you go to the Alliant website they offer to download the reloading 2017 catalog, there were just very few recipes in the catalog so use the website live as there are many more added since the 'catalog'. My first loads are Badman Bullets 45acp 200gr SWC's coated, Alliant shows 5.8 max so I loaded some up at 5.3, 5.5 and a few at 5.7. Will hopefully get a little range time on Friday eve and will update again. Also put together some 185gr Missouri 'button' style coated bullets to try at 5.8gr and 6.0gr.

Update #2 8/9/17

Default Let us know.....

Let us know how the stuff works out. Not planning on buying any, but in case I do, I'd like to know what to expect. How is loading data for this one?

I'm very interested in Sport Pistol powder since it's "optimized for polymer coated bullets", which I use a lot of.

Please do let us know your results.

Alliant website load data live, don't use the downloadable catalog 2017 because it is not updated for all the Sport Pistol recipes that the live website offers

It doesn't 'dissolve' polymer coatings. I'm glad to hear that.

I wonder if we are looking at an eventual Bullseye replacement?

UPDATE#2
I got a chance to shoot yesterday finally. Shooting 185gr and 200gr SWC coated bullets with low to mid range Sport Pistol was a pleasure. Powder appears to burn very clean, recoil is most comfortable, no smoke, no flames, no odd odors etc.
The 38 special loads with 148gr and 158gr coated were very soft shooting, max levels of powder were still soft shooting so would be nice loads for those that don't like recoil.

I don't have any formal testing equipment so this is just my observations shooting out of a 45 Shield and a 625 45acp revolver indoors.

So far a very likeable powder that meters best of anything I have used.
I would say that if you see it on the shelf to get some and give it a try!
Karl

Thanks Carl,
Always on the lookout for target type powders , I shoot a lot of cast lead. The recent powder shortage has left me buying anything that I could possibly use. Sounds like a useful powder.

I would share if you were local I have one LGS that seems to be ahead of the rest when it comes to powders as far as inventory and latest releases. I didn't expect to see it but there it was
Good luck in your search Gary

I've got a lead on some here in Texas, but I think the guy may have been referring to Power Pistol instead of Sport Pistol.

It would be interesting to see how it stacks up in the case volume
vs the Alliant Bullseye powder.

I wad told that the "New" Red powder is smaller in size than the old Red Dot
and that MORE of the new powder can be added to a small 9mm case.

More, is some times better.............

I'm envious.

I guess I was distracted by other things because I bought a boatload of Bullseye the week before Alliant began shipping Sport Pistol. From what I have read, I wish I had waited since it seems like Sport Pistol is pretty much a "cleaned-up Bullseye" and that would have been nice - even if it had cost a few bucks more per pound.

As it is, I'll be loading Bullseye for the rest of my life - not like that's a bad thing.

Interesting! A Bullseye equivalent, sort of, that has a good case fill in .45.
I would be interested to know how it compares to Unique/Universal for case fill in .38 and 357 brass.
