Default More and More Stuff!!

Seem Every time I turn around I somehow end up with more stuff in my loading room, Just had to put up another shelf and probably could use another. It all started with a 5' bench and a press....hahaha

Anyone else have this problem?

I started out with a Lee Loader for one cartridge. It progressed to an 8x12" room dedicated to the sport.

My wife doesn't mind because she shoots as much as I do.

Besides my reloading room, I had to use two other closet shelves in other bedrooms. Wife not to pleased, but puts up with me none the less.

I started back in 1987 with a used Lee single stage press and it took up a small corner of my rather small work bench. then I got a Lyman single stage so I wouldn't need to change the dies so often. Then my wife bought me a Dillon RL550 (at my strong suggesting) and things grew rapidly. I then built a dedicated reloading room in my cellar, 8'x11'. That got real crowded so I took over a 9' long wall with shelves and an adjacent wall for another 8', plus shelves on the end wall outside the reloading room (except the door was there too.) That worked until 2012 when we bought another house. In this one I have an area of 10x14' plus both sides of an entry aisle which in 7' long, and lastly a 42" double sided rolling parts rack, with a base shelf, a middle shelf and 96 parts bins on one side and on the back side I mounted 1/2" plywood and put in 4" deck screws to use as peg hooks for a 42" x 60" peg area. I still want more.
I now load about 16-18 different cartridges in metalic, and 12 ga on a MEC 9000 then I use a MEC 600 JR to load .410 bore.

I have an 8x15 shop, big 10' bench, cabinets above & below the bench, separate casting bench, not nearly enough storage. Just built a new shelf unit to go on top of the safe. Casting & reloading are great hobbies but things have a way of multiplying.

A large metal cabinet with 4 storage shelves would come in handy for me.

Default I'm always adding something......

I'm always adding tools or dies or extraneous accessories, but I make a conscious effort not to get 'stuff' for the sake of having 'stuff'. I kind of pride myself in actually saving a good bit of money reloading because I don't just get 'stuff'.

Equipment is not my biggest issue . . . Components are

That is mostly jacketed or plated handgun projectiles. The rifle and most of the lead are on other racks. Not to mention the powder and primers.

I am in the process of moving and I cannot believe how much all this stuff weighs.

Yep That's what I need to do....Stop buying stuff. But I'm fairly new to reloading so I am still feeling out the territory. I really enjoy the whole spectrum of reloading but, now I want to buy other calibers of hand guns and rifles....In fact I'm going to a gun show this weekend so I'm going to have to restrain myself from spending to much....hahaha.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone with the more and more stuff problem..... I guess it's really not a problem!!

My reloading has slowed down a lot since moving to Pensacola. The ranges here are pricey, one indoor one in town I believe charges $15 per hour plus $5 if you use your own ammo. The outdoor range in Pace is $150 individual membership and $12 dollars to shoot. I think if I'm correct the $150 membership gets you 20 trips but you still pay the $12 each time. Another club only allows 250 members and it's full. If anyone in this area knows of a better solution I would love to hear about it. Outside of that we really love the area.

Like Maple Tapper, In 1979 I started with a Lee "Whack a Mole" Loader in 303 British. And Now I have dies for 117 cartridges and all the stuff that goes with it. In the farm house I had a 12' x 15" bedroom that was all mine and storage in the barn. I had 14' running feet of loading bench with a Hornady L-N-L AP, a Dillon 550b, 2 Rock-Chucker Supreme, a Redding T-7 and Lyman bullet sizer 450 all permanently mounted! Plus 6 MEC shotshell presses on boards to be used as needed! Now I have 5' of bench and the 550b & T-7 with a little space to put on temporary anything else I need. I make extensive use of Black&Decker Workmates.

The fortitude needed to give away or sell 8 various presses, could only possibly be exceeded by having to get rid of it all!!!

It took 30+ years to pack it in the farm house, so I'm doing well that it only took a year and a half, to be back up and loading. Since I shooting mostly shotgun and a little handgun, that Is what I'm loading now. With a batch of 45-70 here and 338 Lapua there. It does keep me from wandering about the neighborhood aimlessly!

Ivan

That is pretty much indoor range fees nationally. Just one reason I shun them. I belong to two private outdoor clubs. Both allow unlimited shooting & free guests. One is $50 a year, but a 2.5hr drive. The other is $240 a year, but 50m drive with no traffic. Both have pistol & rifle bays, both allow me to work from a holster & depending on crowd, I can get an entire bay & do whatever I want, just clean it up. See, Kalif isn't all bad, just mostly.

I have a 4 foot reloading bench that is also shared with a vice and table-top drill press. Next to it are 30 inches of base cabinets and wall cabinets to hold components.

I didn't horde or stockpile components, so it was like that for nearly 30 years until I started getting ready to retire. Since my income will go down in retirement, I decided to go ahead and acquire the components I would need for the rest of my life. This required me to add a 60x18 inch five shelf storage unit which will be pretty much full when I close the door on my career in about seven months.

I have a 5' bench with 3 Pro 1000 presses mounted. I have a "portable" bench 12" deep x 40" long with a Lee Classic Cast and Classic Turret mounted to it. I still have a Lee 3 hole turret, RCBS Reloader Special and Lyman 450 lube/sizer still in boxes. 6' x 2' pantry, 3' x 2' matching cab, Stack On Ammo cab, 6' bookcase, storage in closet and on my bench-above and below and on the floor underneath. Still not enough :-(

I know what you mean, the club I belonged to in Texas was $50 per year for seniors and unlimited range time, 7 days a week 8am-7pm. Nice bonus was if a visitor came from over 50 miles away they got to shoot free. Over 1500 members. Always shot on week days and never had to wait for a table. Oh well.

Well,I live wayyyy up north,in Quebec Canada. But if you move in my area,we both can go out shooting in my neck of the woods(100yds range)and all I'll charge you is a couple of cold beers after we're done shooting. What's better than exchanging a few good lies with good friends after a shooting session over a cold beer!

$15.00 bucks an hour is half price. Here it's $15.00 for a 1/2 hour. That's why I joined a club. $195.00 a year and you can work a good portion of it off if you choose. Yep, you just sign up to work the range or clean up.... and so on. Our club is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You can shoot trap, indoor range has six bays, cowboy action range, 25 yard, 50 yard and 100 yard outdoor ranges. And we have a 3-D archery range as well and Lots of nice people to boot!

Joe I totally agree with Fred. You really should look long and hard there should be numerous private outdoor clubs in your area. I belong to two of them, one costs $30.00/year and has basically everything in total abundance (they host many championship matches in USPSA, Steel Challenge, IDPA and ICORE plus trap, international trap, skeet, High power Rifle, small bore rifle, Archery and they have a pond stocked for your fishing pleasure. The other club has way less but costs $13.00/year.

There are commercial indoor ranges around here also but the cost is high.

Wow those places sound like paradise!! I don't know how they can operate with prices that low. Is there a fee every time you shoot? Or there must be a lot of members?

Sure sounds nice especially the fishing pond!!

I belong to a local club in Oneida, NY. Right now it costs $100 initiation (one time cost) and $80/yr. to join. Seniors (70+) with 15 yrs in club, get 75% off yearly. I was actually voted in as a Distinguished Lifetime member, no dues but I do still pay $20 out of the 80, that is a loan payment surcharge. At the moment our indoor range is closed for major upgrades for lead abatement. We are putting in a $90,000 ventilation system that will move enough air down range so that no matter where you are shooting from in the range, the lead fumes will be carried away. A big portion of the cost is the heating system to heat the replacement air as fast as it enters the range. That project is projected to be completed in another 4-6 weeks. The indoor range is 10 lanes, 50', limited to 22/22 mag rifle and all non magnum handgun.
We now only have a controlled entry outdoor range open, it has a trap house, a 100 meter rifle range, and also contains a 25 yd and a 50 yd bunker from the 100 meter line. Down range we have a handgun only falling plate rack and benches at 25 and 50 yards from the main 100 meter targets. Those main targets are turning targets for competitions/leagues.
Aside from the 1 time initiation fee and the dues ($60+20 loan pmt surcharge) we pay nothing to shoot for open shooting, we do pay a little for the leagues, but all those fees are rather low, for example trap is $3/match (25 birds).

In 1981 or 82 I bought a used Texan 7 hole turret loader and Lyman dies for 38 Special and 44 Magnum. When we built our condo in 2005 I have a 11X21 ft room dedicated to shooting/reloading. There is a 4'x7' poured concrete vault in one corner, and 21 ft of counter top in a "U" around the other end of the room. I still have that great old Texan loader, but added a Dillon 550 and a Mec9000 shotgun loader. Dedicated one side for cleaning and repair work. All the space under the workbench is stacked with green GI cans with various reloads. I do not wish to add up the amount of loaded ammo I have available, but I think I could arm the neighborhood in case of an attack.

I have come full circle. Started back in the early 80s with single stage shotshell and a RCBS Jr for metallic. That grew from a bench to a small outbuilding of 10x15, and in a new house to the entire third car garage section. Moved to a new house, smaller house, and not hunting or shooting rifle or as much handgun as before. Ammo, primers and powder kept in a BR closet on a shelf, that old RCBS and a MEC shotshell press on a shelf in the garage. In one corner of the spare bedroom is a small machine/grinder type of stand that is 18" x 18". A little more labor intensive than when I ran full progressives for 3 shotgun bores and Dillons for metallic, but it works. (ESPECIALLY since that "gem" of a wife, as mentioned by those other guys) took over the spare "den" and turned into her jewelry making room - she has more "stuff" than I ever did reloading.......................

Happy wife, happy life.....happy wife, happy life.......happy wife, happy life.......
