Default Do y'all see any problem with these?

I'm new to reloading, and I have some plated bullets I've been loading. But I found these on gunbroker and am very tempted to try a batch. Does anyone see any reason not to?

Well, aside from the fact that at $7 + $7 shipping, you're paying about $60/500 for bullets some guy powdercoated at home.

I'd say, suck it up and just order a parcel of PC from someplace. You could order a single 500-round box from MBC, eat the flat-rate shipping, and get 500 bullets for $57.

Find some friends who are interested in trying out powdercoated bullets (or who order from a place that offers it anyway), and split a 4-box order with them.

There are reputable suppliers that sell the same thing for less if you want to try 'em out.

@ $14.95 per 100 there are much better values to be had but you will be buying bulk at 250 to 500.
This bullet design is common and widely used. Hytek coated bullets are great!
You may want to look at Missouri Bullet Company or Bayou Bullets for a starter.

Casting and then coating yourself is pretty simple.

Yes it is. I had a local guy casting for me for a couple years and I powdercoated them myself. At 6 cents a bullet that worked fine with no shipping. Then he moved so I started casting my own out of reclaimed shot and range scrap. Free is good and they work just fine. Kinda gratifying shooting projectiles you made for yourself.

Those bullets are Hi Tech coated bullets, not powder coated. But the principle is the same. And those are comparable as compared to known bullet manufacturers that sell the same thing, such as Missouri Bullet Company or Bayou Bullets. But, if they don't apply the product right you will have leading. I had that happen with some SNS bullets. Just to give you a link to compare, check out the Bayou Bullets 158 grain SWC coated with the same material for $43/500 plus shipping. Here is the link: LINK

Bayou Bullets makes high quality bullets and shipping charges are reasonable too.

I very much appreciate the info! I'll check out Bayou Bullets and Missouri Bullet Co.

I would love to cast my own bullets, but the thing I lack is time. I barely have time to reload at all.

Thanks again!

I think the bullet on gunbroker deserve a try so I ordered 500 of the Hytek coated 158gr .358" SWC $7.70x5 + $7.75 shipping.

No 44cal offered?

I also have 500 X-treme 158gr plated SWC coming that were $45 shipped

I agree, I would not but those either. The Missouri Bullet Company is a proven good vendor with good bullets. They also sell sample packs of 100 if you want to try before you buy bulk. I usually but 2000 at a time, one full carton of 4 boxes. Missouri Bullet Company

Here's 158 grain lead SWC bullets at 500 for $49
.38 .357 158 gr lead SWC Bulk Reloading Bullets

Want genuine 158 grain Jacketed (not plated) hollow points? Well here's 500 for $79.
.38 / .357 158 gr JHP Bulk Reloading Bullets

Bottom line; there are better deals out there. Spend some time doing a Yahoo or Google search.

(Seems to be a lot of thread drift today) To answer your question, no reason not to try PCed or Hi-Tek coated bullets. I have only PCed and fired about 1,500 cast bullets and I just used lead bullet data and methods, just like I did for plated bullets (only went through about 800 of those). I can't reply on costs as the only PCed/Hi-Tek bullets I've purchased were a few years ago and I have no idea of today's costs...

If you want a quality hard cast lead bullets at a very good price then maybe this is the company for you.
Welcome to Summers Enterprises, LLC, makers of fine hard cast lead bullets.

I bought a lot of their 240gr 44cal and I'm very happy with them.

Can NOT beat the price for quality on Summer Enterprise. More like $50 for 1000 through them and they do the 4 box flat rate shipping too! So I second the notion to take a look at their site
