Default 460 MAGNUM and 300gr SST Question

[IMG][/IMG]I reload for about 10 years. A few weeks ago I got Model 460XVR. Tested few factory ammo and decided to reload. Did some reading over the weekend and then visited few stores. Grabbed 3 boxes of bullets and when I got home, I noticed these bullets are Hornady 452" 300 GR SST ML. I thought these were the 200 GR SST which Hornady sells in their factory Hornady Custom Ammunition 460 S&W Magnum 200 Grain Flex Tip eXpanding # 9152 ( Hornady Custom Ammo 460 S&W Mag 200 Grain Flex Tip - MPN: 9152 )

So, I have 150 bullets which I cant return. They look the same as the 200 grainers in factory ammo. Can I load these for my Model 460XVR?

Thanks for all answers.

I wouldn't. That's a muzzle loader (ML) bullet that's used with a sabot. I don't readily see what muzzle velocity they're rated at but I can't image any black powder rifle coming close to what the 460Mag can do. Sorry but I say set them aside & buy what you originally wanted.

Depends on what you are going to use them for. Perfectly safe to use, but probably too fragile for anything but shooting paper at legitimate .460 velocities. The fact they do not have a cannelure to crimp into would also mean that one would probably experience "bullet jump" to the unfired ammo in the cylinder when loaded to legitimate .460 velocities. IOWS, they'd probably work for powder puff plinker type loads, but not for much else. I'd try to take them back to the store or trade 'em. As for the 200 gr SSTs in .460, they too are great for shooting paper, but as for a hunting type bullet, IME, not for anything larger than 'yotes.
