A guy gave me these six rounds of 223. Any idea what bulletin this is?

My suggestion is to pull one bullet and weigh it. If you don't own a scale in grains, go to the reloading department of any decent gun store. That leaves you with 5 to shoot.

Otherwise, shoot them or junk them, you have become someone else's dump!

I don’t necessarily need to know the weight. I was wondering more about the brand and construction. It’s obviously a hollow point but the flutes on the tip interest me. I’ve never seen that on a rifle bullet.

They look like reloads. Ask Your friend what the bullets are and the powder charge. If He doesn't know, pull the bullets and start over. Don't shoot them.

I won't be surprised if its not one of the major US mnfgs.
I've seen that tip configuration before but my 'sometimers' has left it from my brain cells! LOL

I agree with H Richard, they look like Speer's 52 grain hollow points. Back when I was young, foolish and didn't know the first thing about terminal ballistics, a friend showed me a round loaded with the Speer 52 grain bullets. They looked so "primal" with that opening that the next time I was anyplace with a gun store, I bought a box.

I didn't develop a load, I just stuck them on top of 25 grains of IMR 3031 (less than a maximum load based on published data at the time) and let them rip. They did not shoot well at all. The experience taught me a number of valuable lessons about not judging a bullet by its looks, the need to properly develop a load regardless of how excited I was and the fact that when it comes to reloads, if you didn't load it, you probably shouldn't shoot it.

No way to tell for sure, but they bear a strong resemblance to some factory Winchester 55 grain JHP loads I have.

Just what I was going to suggest. If the brass has a Winchester head stamp, I'd bet they are the 55 gr hp that come in the white box.
