44 gas checks--HELP ON ID
I bought some Lyman gas checks and the box say 44 but they measure .425 od. My old Lyman gcs measure .435 od and Sage measures .440 od. What have I bought?: No # other than Lyman 44 GC and $8.95. .

Just one more box of Lyman gas checks that aren't useable. Nothing new here, please move along. This is why people buy Hornady gas checks --they fit Lee and Lyman bullets.
Something is really wrong when Lyman gas checks won't fit bullets cast with a Lyman bullet mould. I wonder if enough people have complained to Lyman Customer Service for them to know they have a problem? I have bought 4 boxes of Lyman gas checks since 1975, not one box has fit the bullet base. I bought the last 3 Lyman boxes because Hornady gas checks were out of stock at 3 different suppliers on 3 widely spaced apart times -- like 5 year intervals.

Although they say they are for 44 (Special & Magnum) they are for 44-40 (44WCF).
Lyman customer service won't do much of anything, their parent company (ATI?) won.t let them!
I have bought gas checks from used dealers for years. As the previous generation of reloaders (mostly WWII vets) the equipment as sold of a junk by the families. Most of the time the checks are in medicine bottles. They are usually in very good condition. The problem arises when non reloaders "Help" clean up and pour several partial bottles together!

I was looking at a Lyman manual yesterday. Could they be for a 41 magnum? The od is .425 and they are in an old box.

Have you tried them? I have used gas checks since I got mold for Lyman's 429244 gas checked bullet (mebbe '99) and I haven't measured one yet...
