What did you load today?
I thought it might be interesting to discuss our reloading efforts in some detail.
I've got a buddy coming to town, and I know he rarely gets to shoot so I'm loading up some practice rounds.
Last night:
200 x 44 Magnum - 7.0 gr of Trail Boss, Summer Enterprises 240gr LSWC, CCI large primers. I've shot a bunch of this and it's a fun range load that's essentially a 44 SPL load. I've also got a box of 240gr American Eagle JSP 44 mag that he can shoot a few of for the real magnum experience.
Tonight:
300 x .38 SPL - 4.2 gr Trail Boss (Hodgdon's max recommended load), Summer Ent 158gr LRNFP, CCI small primers. I've also shot this load and it's another pretty mellow load for plinking.
I've been using Trail Boss lately because my LGS was low and that's what he had left. It meters well thru my Lee Auto Drum, not so well thru my Hornady Lock and Load drop. It seems a bit dirty to me, but I do like that it's glaringly obvious if the bullet is undercharged. Basically if the shell isn't full of powder, something is off. That said, Trail Boss is good for one thing - low power loads. Even a max charge is very tame compared to other powders.
I might load some mid-level 357 tomorrow just for variety, but it's probly not necessary. I've got plenty, and he's bringing a 9mm he wants to shoot some as well.
What did y'all load today?

I didn't load anything today, but yesterday I loaded up 200 45 ACP rounds. I used Zero 230 grain FMJ bullets and 6.8 grains of Shooter's World Ultimate Pistol powder. It's a fun and kind of peppy load that pushed 900 fps out of my 5" barrel ATI 1911, according to my chrono. That brings me up to a total of 800 rounds of 45 ACP loaded and ready to go bang.

I have an IPSC comp coming up in a few weeks and needed to build up my ammo for it. Yesterday I ran 200 primed 45 ACP cases through my press using 5.7 gn Tightgroup under a 200 gn plated flat point bullet. Today I barrel dropped them all in the barrel of my Springfield 1911 A1 then counted up the .45 ACP rounds I had left after my last competition. I was 34 short of 500 rounds so I primed and loaded another 34 resized cases I had in a container under my bench.
I still have a couple of hundred practice rounds using both my competition load and my practice load (5.4 gn Win 231 under 230 gn LRN) to shoot off in the next 10 days to prepare for the upcoming comp.

Yesterday, I processed and loaded 1000 .223 rounds for my youngest brother. He got them at an auction sale and about a third of them would not fit my case gauge, so I got to re-size them so that ALL of them are good to go.

Yesterday I was bored so I loaded some more of my "just in case" handloads. It is 45 ACP with a 230 FMJ over 5.0 gr. of Bullseye. This load works in any 45 Auto I know of and 100% in my two 45 ACP pistols. I now have a plastic jug of approx. 300 rounds that I can grab and go along with my 2, 45s. I also have another 100+ in my "45 Kit"....

Got ready to load.....
.44 magnums, but ran into a glitch. More on that later.
Separated out brass for 9mm, .38, .357, 7.7 Arisaka, Mosin and 30-06. I even found a .223 in there. And a bunch of .40s I put in my 'one day I might get that caliber' box.
I bought some used dies that don't have a flare plug. (I just load these because my friend has a .44. He never knows what kind of 'surprise' I'll give him). Any way, I didn't like the way these felt while and after sizing. I have used these dies before with good results. I was digging around for something to flare the top with when I stuck a bullet in it went in too easily. i used my calipers that have just gone one the fritz but they all measured within SAAMI specs. I think that the dies are well worn.
Now if I can just find GOOD calipers.

I continued processing 468 rounds of LC-10 5.56 brass. It came to me as part of a huge batch of brass that had been rejected from a commercial sorting process.
For the most part, the reason for rejection seemed to be that the case mouth was bent enough to keep an automated decapper from popping the primer out. Straightening out the case mouth was all that was required to restore it to serviceable condition.
Some had body dings that became unnoticeable after resizing, but there were still a hundred or more with severe damage that will have to be scrapped or turned into 300 Blackout brass.
Sorting and grading all the brass before starting to process took a lot of time, but I knew that going in and it was a pleasant way to pass a couple of rainy weekends.
Now I move on to the LC-05 and the LC-12 brass that was in the same batch.

Awesome! I've heard that 21 grains was the original load. I've thought of doing that in my Model 64 with some 3FG Olde Eynsford powder under a 158 grn bullet to see the velocities they had back then.

Great stuff!
It's interesting to see how many of us still reload and shoot a lot of 38 SPL. I've been shooting my magnums a lot lately, but I have to say that I still shoot my 4" M10 better than any gun I own. Something about that gun just works for me.

Prep for Reloading
The last several days I've been cleaning, and
preparing to reload for 44 Special, 44 Magnum,
and 45 Colt that I used over the Winter.
My current, go to, plinking 44 S&W Special reload is;
240gr Lead Semi Wad or RNFP round nose flat point
works also. 5.0grs Alliant RED DOT.
5.0grs Alliant Red Dot, S&B LP primer
Brass is Win, or R-P.
Crimp is what I call medium roll crimp.
FPS approximately 800?.
Bullets tumbled lube with Ben's Liquid Lube,
for Lead free barrel performance.
Primers no where near flat.
44 Magnum is basically the same above,
but 5.6grns Alliant Red Dot.
45 Colt is 250gr Lead Semi Wad or RNFP round
nose flat point 6.0grs Alliant RED DOT.

I wish they would let us use XTPs for our bowling pin match.
Last night I loaded 44 mag 240gr. JSP for my father.

RGVshooter, have you ever tried any of Zero's 158 grain jacketed bullets? They have been pretty good for me and are significantly cheaper than the XTP bullets. They make 158s in JSP and JHP varieties. Look at Roze Distribution for the Zero bullets and prices include shipping in 1k lots or more.

I recently bought about 1200 old Speer 148 gr Bevel Base Wad Cutters (.358) from a friend at work for a great price. They were part of a large lot that he bought at auction and didn't need these.
I just loaded a variety of test loads to try at the range.

Haven't used HP-38 in a while, so I'm loading some 45 auto with 200 grain Rainier plated SWC with 5.0 and 5.3 grains of HP-38.
Then some 357 with a 125 TMJ and 7 grains HP-38, a zippy but soft shooting practice load.

Between last night and this morning I loaded up 502 9mm 115gr plated with 6.6gr HS6. I found a box of 500 Xtreme primed brass I'd forgot about and loaded them up. I guess they gave me 2 free ones.

Did another step in my experimenting with Ramshot Enforcer in 500 Mag. I've started at min charge (what a mess) and now I'm all the way to 2% away from max charge. 20 rds of 350 Berry's (rated upto 2000 fps) on top of 44 gr of Ramshot Enforcer). These are attention grabbers on the range

I am going to have to load a bunch of 222 Rem. Daughter went out shooting PDs on the dry ground today. Used up the last of my loaded ammo. Shot 17 out of 20 rounds. I didn't realizewe had that many PDs on the place...but they are moving in from next door. We may have as many as a 1000. I did load some 41 mag lately

Yesterday morning I started out priming 200 sized and resized .45 Auto cases. Before I know it they, and another 20 odd sitting on my bench, were fully reloaded to be shot when I go to the range on Wednesday. (I fired off almost 200 loaded rounds I had on hand last Thursday before I realised it).

My basket of 357 SIG reloads was empty: I loaded up 75 of my standard practice ammo (the Rainier 124GR HP over 7.6 gr of Unique) & 10 each of the 115GR XTP's over mid-range loadings for Unique & Accurate #5 @ an approximate 1,300 fps.
With my Storm Lake 357 SIG drop-in barrel and a good ammo supply in 40 S&W, I'm really looking forward to my next trip to the range: hopefully, tomorrow...?
Cheers!

In the process of loading 2000 .38 Spl with a Precision Delta 148 hbwc. I was using 2.8 of Bullseye but ran out of powder. Any one have a good load with this bullet and BE-86? I was thinking of trying 3.5 of BE-86 and going from there.
