I do all my reloading on a turret press and have been relying on a Lee PRO auto-disc powder dropper. It's always dead on with my usual ball powders including titegroup, w231, longshot, and Universal. However, it's all over the place with H110 that's listed a ball powder but it's so fine compared to the others mentioned that it looks like flour. I'm about out of Longshot and thought I'd try HS-6 which I can get locally (nobody has longshot). The description on the Hodgdon website calls it a "fine spherical powder". If I buy it and it doesn't meter well on my auto-disc it'll just end up sitting around forever. Anyone here use it with an auto-disc. How fine is it compared to any of the other powders I mentioned?

I've had difficulty with it in a Redding measure and the measure on a Star press.

Sounds like I should probably just try to turn up some Longshot somewhere.

I have used HS6 off and on for 30+ years, and never had any problem using a RCBS powder measure, but I normally weigh weigh all loads individually, and trickle in the final teeny bit. (I load for accuracy). It worked extremely well with a 44 mag load with 225 gr GC cast bullets on 200 meter rams and minimal recoil.

Weighing each individual charge would take care of any issues. However, I've gotten used to not having to weigh each charge and I guess I've gotten a little spoiled. Sitting down to load 300 rounds and weighing each charge doesn't sound like fun. That would turn a 90 minute job into a 5 hour job.

If you haven't done so already, take a small, long, flat piece of about any hard material, and wrap some fine sandpaper around it and sand the disc to get rid of the high spots so they are even with the sunk part of the molded plastic. It works wonders!

I went back and reread my original post and I think it might have been a little confusing. My problem isn't that my dropper makes a mess with fine powders. When I said all over the place what I meant was that with really fine powders it did not give a consistent weight.

Check the elastomer wiper on the outlet tube of the measure. If it is worn down completely flush with the bottom of measure it will not seal on the top of the disk and will cause inconsistent drops.

I have had no problems with HS-6 in a Pro AutoDisk over the years. It works well for me.
