Default 130gr FMJ 38 special

I came across a good handful of 130gr FMJ flat point 38 caliber bullets (they mic'd at .356") however I couldn't really find any load data specific to 130 bullets. So what I've done was to pull out a couple reloading books and just used the data for the next size heavier bullet which was Speers 135gr GDHP & Hornadys 140gr XTP. I compared the two and the load info using Power Pistol was more or less the same so I loaded up a handful with this recipe.

130gr FMJ flat point.
6.0gr Power Pistol
OAL 1.450"
CCI 500 small pistol primer.
New Winchester case's

For example, a Speer 135gr GDHP +P spec straight out of Alliant's website shows 6.4gr power pistol & COL of 1.450" so I feel that 130gr and 6.0 powder should be warm, but fine.

Pistol using is a S&W 686.

Just FYI, those bullets are really intended for the .38 Super cartridge, although they are sold as .38 bullets. Go figure!

When you can't find loading data for a specific bullet weight just use data for the next heavier weight bullet. May not give optimum performance, but it will be perfectly safe.

Yeah I mic'd them at .356" dia. but I figured "eh, what the hay, use 'em". I used load info from my Hornady 9th edition for 140gr XTP in 38 special. I went for the middle range and loaded them all up with 5.9-6.0gr Power Pistol, which is a forgiving powder IMO. I'm just gonna use them for plinking steel at our outdoor range.

With a 686 there is no problem...........

Just depends if it is a smooth wall or has a crimp grove on it.
Since it is for the "Super" it is probably, smooth.

Just have a good taper crimp and medium fps loads and all should be good.

Good loading.

I shoot a lot of 130 gr coated lead from Summers and SNS loaded with 5.0gr Universal. One of the most accurate loads I’ve found for .38
