I just use the simple green and water solution. And sometimes clean the primer pocket of its nasty looking. I actually size-deprime before cleaning, so that the water has another way to get out when drying.

Funny, I'm still new to reloading pistol (1 year). Have reloaded shotgun for years, we don't clean shot shells... so I haven't really worried about it. But dirt and grime can't help, so cleaning can't hurt. But I don't get all serious about it.

When I get the urge to clean brass, I boil fired cases in a dishwashing detergent solution then strain and rinse them. I then put them in a weak citric acid solution (that is what Lemishine is) and let them sit overnight. Rinse and dry before reloading them.

I tried that, but couldn't get them to come out "al dente".
