The title says it all - does anyone besides Rimrock make very soft LSWC-HP with gas checks?

I've been thinking about working up an FBI load equivalent, but Rimrock is pretty dang spendy for those bullets - $30+shipping for 100! Sure the cost drops with quantity, but for a pure lead bullet with a gas check that seems crazy to me.

Any ideas?

How about these?

Speer - 358-158-SWCHP BULLET BULK

I believe they are dead soft swaged lead. No gas check though.

Why do you need a gas check? Per the post above soft lead doen't lead your barrel.

If it a SD load you shouldn't need to many so leading isn't an issue.

I had forgotten about those Speer bullets, though I'm dubious about their claim that they won't lead. I'll have to do some googling to see it they live up to that claim.

I shoot a lot of Hornady 148 WC, 158 SWC Frontier lead and Speer 158 SWC in my 38 and 357 and no lead. However in my 44 SBH the Speer SWC is leading and I’m working on finding a load where it won’t.
However I haven’t tried loading them as hot as you want to though.
After a couple hundred through my 14-3, 686 or 28 there is slight leading just past the forcing cone but takes a few passes with brush and is gone.
I’m using Bullseye and 231 for powder.

Lots of choices here -- you might find what you are looking for. Prices seem very reasonable. No personal experience.

I have just gotten some of the GT bullets. They are not pure lead like you’re looking for, but they are of a soft alloy, with a hollow point you could park a truck in. They would probably work fine for your purposes.

Wow, they've gone up almost 50% in the 5yrs. since I bought some.

Must be that fancy plastic box they come in now instead of a cardboard box.

They do look promising. Have you seen any expansion tests?

Yes sir I have done my own, I use the GT bullets .45 and .44 pictures are of their 225gr HP .45 fired from a 1950 model S&W .45 ACP. at 900fps. The picture tell the rest of the story.

The GT Bullets are 2-2-96 alloy which is pretty soft. The .45 in the picture was fired into water filled milk jugs and stopped in the third jug.

I can assure you I wouldn't want to be hit with that bullet the terminal ballistics are devastating. I haven't done a expansion test on the .44 but the are really accurate in all my .44s. I generally keep the .44 at a little lower speeds just for target use.
