Anyone use the same powder charge for same weight jacketed bullets and standard cast lead in their pistol ammo they reload. I haven't tried it yet but I got to thinking it would be convenient in my 45acp.

At the medium to lower end of the pressure range it works fine, but the cast loads will be a little faster.

I tried it, but it just doesn't produce the results (velocities) that I want in each type bullet.

So now, I load the jacketed bullets with just a bit more powder.

In 45 acp you can exceed it by a very small amount if you wish as their is less friction and resulting pressure. Just don't exceed chronographed speeds for jacketed. Don't try this in your 300 magnum.

No. I use lead bullet data for my cast lead bullets and jacketed bullet data for my jacketed bullets, usually from the bullet manufactures' manuals...

No, because if all things are equal between a jacketed bullet and a cast lead bullet (and odds are they won't be), the difference in the friction between the bullet and the barrel alone will result in different pressure levels and velocities.

Actually I have some good reloading manuals with both lead and jacketed data. Seems plated runs a bit off from these however. Tried plated and didn't like them. Anyway the load data for lead and jacketed often WIDELY over laps. I don't load hot ammo anymore. I found it just wears out a gun faster if you shoot much. If I want hot or SD ammo I buy it at the store. I think I wil
l experiment with same data in the mid range and see what the accuracy is. If it is good enough for some semi serious plinking I will have struck gold.

I only do lead in my 38 and 357 magnum loads but I have tried
just one powder weight for a lead and jacket bullet in the same weight.

The loads were good enough to kill paper but not the best.
For some odd reason, I could not get the fps or accuracy out of
both bullet loads most of the time and had to "Fudge" a little to
get a load that I was happy with.

There was a commercial on the net that had 3-4 125gr bullets for different
calibers, that was said to work well with x.x grs of W231 powder.
I never tried it out.

I just take decent notes about my powder dispenser settings.

It should be pretty simple. Often times the load data for lead and jacketed bullets have significant overlap. The start and max numbers might be different, but finding one powder setting for 45 ACP should be simple assuming you're using common bullets and powders.

If you're using really light or heavy bullets (155 grain or 250 grain) you might have a harder time finding a load that overlaps but anything in the 200 to 230 grain range will probably have overlap.
