Default Load data questions.

Good morning. I am starting to load for a new to me cast bullet, the Lyman 2650637 (a.k.a. Lyman 356637HP).

First, has anyone found load data for this bullet in any cast bullet loading manuals?

Second, does anyone here use the new Lyman Auto Pistol Load Data book? If so, does it contain data for the above mentioned bullet?

This bullet is basically a cast 147gr RNFP with a hollow point added and is supposed to weigh 125gr. This bullet is also promoted as usable in the 38 Special.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

A 147-grain bullet that now weighs 125 grains? Sounds like a self defeating design to me. Why not just buy/make a 125-grain HP? Plenty of data for those.

The Lyman Devastator line of HP molds have been around for at least a decade now.

In all that time, there must be someone that wrote an article or two. Did you try Google?

Personally, I never bought one of the Lyman Devastator molds because they were single cavity HP molds. My HP molds are all the Cramer style, most of them 4 cavity

As to load data, use the data for any 124 grain lead HP. Start at the bottom and work up.

As to use in the 38 special cartridge. what is the diameter of the projectile as it drops from the mold? That will tell you if it is suitable or not as a lead projectile. If you are planning on powder coating the bullet, then diameter is a moot point when we are concerned about leading.

I sent the OP a picture of the page from the Lyman book he was asking about. That should take care of his questions about that bullet. But in reality the lead he uses probably his load.

Thank you for your replies.

The Lyman hollow point molds use a basic mold, then incorporate a pin that creates the hollow point and reduces the bullet weight.

Prett much what that bullet design does.
One can use starting 124gr jhp data & work up. You can also use the max data for the 147gr bullet as a starting point.
