Default Who sells primers?

Dumb question, I know...but I find myself with a wet three day weekend and wanting to crank out some ammo, but I’m short on primers. Closest place I can think of is Bass Pro, but that’s 50 miles plus. Do any other stores with sporting goods sections sell primers? I looked on a Walmart.com and they’ll drop ship them, but it doesn’t say if they carry them in any stores.

Your local gun store that sells reloading supplies would have them.

Most chain stores do not carry reloading supplies, other then Ace Hardware here in Kansas sells primers.

Not much help

Funny thing...none of our LGS in the area carry any reloading supplies.

The storage requirements mandated by the ATFE and in some cases local fire codes scare most of the local shops away from reloading supplies. I’m in a similar situation as you. I watch the on line retailers for free hazmat shipping deals and load up.

You'd need to disclose where you're located if you want specific help. I'd start calling shops and asking them. Even if the LGS don't have reloading supplies they should know where you can find some.

The large sporting goods stores are most likely to have them. I've heard that some Walmarts do carry reloading supplies but they are few and far between. Scheels, Bass Pro, Sportsmans Wharehouse, Mills Fleet Farm are the shops near me but I'm in central Iowa so that doesn't help much.

I’m in Port Charlotte, Fl, about halfway between Ft. Myers and Sarasota. I called around and found a mom and pop sporting goods store up in Venice, Cooks Sportsland that carries some reloading supplies. That’s only 15 miles or so. Think I’m going to go check them out.

US Reloading Supplies, Englewood, FL
Youngs Enterprises, Orange City, FL

I usually buy online from places like Graf's and Powder Valley. They frequently have discounted or free shipping and hazmat, especially if you buy in quantity.

Look for gun shows in your area. I usually find someone at gun shows that have primers at a decent price. Just picked up a box of 1000 Fed Large Pistol last weekend for $25. That's about the lowest I have seen for several years.

I've driven farther than 50 miles for components.

You may need to just "bite the bullet"... (pun intended!)

Just underscores the need to keep a good supply. I used to buy local as needed. Then in the 1990s, the Clinton scare made primers scarce. I started keeping a one year reserve. Then the 2012 obummer scare, I started keeping a two year reserve. I never go below that, whatever two years is for you. Just buy occasionally & rotate stock. Even in kommifornia most local shops stock primers, but at $40/1000+, no thanks. One decent shop about 30m away, $30/k for cci/win, still an hour drive + near $4 gas, ordering 10k on line is just easier, often cheaper too.

Last time I was in the Lafayette, LA Academy, they had started selling primers and powder and bullets. You might check to see if your local Academy is also stocking them.

Try this link and make some calls. There are several possibilities in Port Charlotte according to this site!

It's really easy, this is my search string: reloading supplies port charlotte, fl Searching the internet is a lot easier than many seem to think it is, just type what you are looking for and click "search".

Fin, Fur & Feather has reloading supplies. Don't know if any are near you. Good luck on your quest. I as others am pretty well stocked up on reloading stuff. Seems like overkill, but you never know. Bob

That is why I always buy 5,000 at a time of the ones I use most.
I shoot a lot of competition.

Check with the local gun ranges, ours have a for sale board and sometimes primers are listed for a decent price. Picked up 5000 not long ago for 25$ per 1000. Also you may have a local gun forum there, up here we have Gulf Coast Gun Forum with lots of reloading stuff for sale, you might have something similar down there.

I recently went to an Academy here in Dallas and was surprised to some powder and primers, some reloading kits and a few other items. Don't remember them ever having them in the past. They've always had a nice gun counter and a good selection of ammo. Maybe this is just a test.

I'm glad to hear it isn't just the Lafayette, LA store doing so. Maybe they are selling primers and some powder nationwide now. I posted about this about a week or so ago above you.

EDIT: I just checked Academy online and they show primers, powder and brass and powder and primers are not sold online, so I guess they stock them in most stores too.

The stores in Plano TX have had random reloading supplies since late last year, maybe earlier. Stocks come and go.
